Is It Pop Or Soda Or Soda Pop

Is Coke and like products (Pespi, Mountian Dew, etc) called Pop or Soda or Soda Pop?

Actually, it's all wrong. It's coke.

Texas waitress: "Would you like a coke with that?"

Yankee Customer: "Sure"

(uncomfortable silence)

Texas waitress: "Okay, what kind?"

You forgot "tonic"

It;s what my G'ma and my mom's aunts usd to ask me. "Would you like some tonic?" I had to specify Coke or I might have been given a glass of Moxie!

It's SODA in California too.

I think it has to do with people's main way of processing data.

People who call soda "pop" tend to have more of an auditory classification of the world, while those who call soda "soda" tend to have a scientific classification of the world, because the characteristic bubbles in soda are its "soda-ness" similar to the "soda-ness" in sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).

However, I have no ideas to explain the geographic distribution of these classifications.
