ironmonk
The majority of our country believes that Abortion is murder. Why then if we live in a democracy does it exist?! We are ruled by the snake judges. Is it not that the Judicial branches of government job to enforce the laws NOT make new ones?! Is it not that the Elective branch of government elected by the people to make the laws?! WHY THEN IS THE JUDICAL BRANCH RULING?! We in the US are under their rule.... the people DO NOT rule. Just a few thoughts. Your Servant in Christ, ironmonk
jrndveritatis
Exactly. "The president can fail without the state's suffering because the president has only a limited duty. Congress can err without the Union's perishing because above Congress resides the electoral body that can change its mind by changing its members." "But if the Supreme Court ever came to be composed of imprudent or corrupt men, the confederation would have to fear anarchy or civil war." -Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America I don't think anyone can honestly believe that this has not occurred. smeagol
i think you need to read more Tocqueville. he cautions against a Tyranny of the Majority. there are oh so many good reasons why the supreme court is not held accountable to the majority. read more Tocqueville or JS Mill or Fareed Zakaria's recent book "the Future of Freedom." this country would be oh so much worse if every institution were ruled by the majority. we need to cushion some aspects of government from the 'mood swings' and fads of the public. i am NOT saying that prolife is a temporary fad of the public, but i am saying that iron monk is once again exaggerating the harms. and i'm saying that there are very very good reasons as to why the supreme court is cushioned from the majority and political issues. bashing the institution, while not understanding the reasons for why it is the way it is and not appreciating the great advances it has allowed for society, is mere folly. Norseman82
What is sad is that even though most people believe that an unborn child is a human life, a majority ALSO beleives that it should be left to a woman to decide. This translates to roughly one-fifth to one-third of the public that believes that murder should be a matter of personal choice. It is these people that are the challenge, because they already have been infected with a very twisted and hard-hearted value. And I've seen it personally when I did a "Face the Truth" event with the Pro-Life Action League: I was holding a graphic picture, and a woman in her car yelled at me saying it was sick; I replied yes, it is sick, that's why we should stop it, and all she kept saying was that it is a woman's choice. Aloysius
the supreme court should not be held accountable to majority rule = CORRECT the supreme court should MAKE NEW LAWS = INCORRECT lawmakers are subject to majority rules, law enforcers are not. if the supreme court wants to continue to, instead of DEFEND the constitution and the laws, impose their own views on the laws, we need to start majority electing them because they've just converted to congressmen.
