Saint Therese
I was thinking of set up a small altar/devotional area in my home and was wondering if anyone else had one and what they are like.
CatherineM
My Godmother had one. She had someone cut a niche in the wall. It had started as one of those old holes in the wall where a phone used to go. She put a Madonna statue and a devotional candle in it. The closest I come is a holy water font by the front door.
puellapaschalis
You can't see it really well, as the photo was meant to emphasise the crucifix (got it on Friday and swapped it in with the "old" one - which is now on the window sill). kujo
I used to have one in my room at my old apartment. But now my room in my new place is so tiny that there's nowhere for me to really have one. I have 2 pictures up (one of Mary and the other of Mary holding JP2) and a Franciscan crucifix over my bed. Other than that, I've got nothing. BUT...when I get my own place, I will definitely be rockin' one out!
Deb
I just set one up a month ago using the landing at the top of the stairs of my second floor. I have a crucifix on the wall and a framed print of "For God so Loved the World" and a framed print of "The Pieta" by Bouguereau. Underneath that I have a small table covered with a beautiful scarf I bought in Medjugorje, and on top, a statue of the Gospa, a small crucific, a rosary, a sacred heart of Jesus and an immaculate heart of Mary medal and a St. Michael Candle. I had everything blessed before I set it up. About four feet across from it I have a Prie Dieu that my father made for me. It is really cool because I can shut all doors up there if I want it dark and then I can just light my candle and some incense and pray all I want. I also have plenty of room if the spirit moves me to just lay down on the floor. I have fallen asleep like that before. The cat thinks I am crazy but, she has never touched one thing on my table nor even attempted to get up on it and she leaves the prie dieu alone too. Like she knows. Selah
I have one! It has a statue of our Lady of Guadalupe and 3 candles around her. I also hang my rosary beads there. It's really pretty
salterrae
JM + JT The closest I have is my bed area. I have a small framed picture of the Holy Family - given to me by my paternal grandmother for my first Holy Communion - with one or two fake flowers I received on two or three separate school retreats attached to the back of it but sticking out. Then on the wooden frame of the bed, I have on one side a little card of St. Therese and on the other a picture of the Madonna holding the child Jesus given to me by a friend. On my nightstand is my Divine Office book, a copy of The World's First Love (Fulton J. Sheen) lent to me by a Sister, and a Bible given to me by a friend.
