At age 4 she said she met God to her atheist family. They did not know what to think, until she started painting and writing poetry. Now, at age 11, she has a depth and a painting skill that is just phenomenal. Check her out and if you see her book definitely pick it up! Theologian in Training
I just read her story, it is amazing. She has such a simple faith and yet a depth like that of an adult. One of my favorite answers to an interviewer were these: "I am a Buddhist. You called Jesus the "Prince of Peace," yet in His name so many people were massacred. How do you explain that?" Her answer: "Jesus is peace, just like calm water. But anyone can drop a stone into water and make it muddy." "Why did you choose Christianity instead of another religion?" Akiane: "I didn't choose Christianity; I chose Jesus Christ. I am painting and writing what God shows me. I don't know much about the religions, but I know this: God looks at our love." And, a simple answer of a child. "What church do you belong to? What denomination?" Akiane: "I belong to God."
prose
I saw her on Oprah. You would have a hard time convincing me that this wasn't a God-given talent for His glorification. Edited May 13, 2008 by prose
Galloglasses
A Saint in the making much? I just checked one of her paintings, where she is on her knees. I swear she looks like a young Virgin Mary, the clothes she wears looks desrt worn even.

I just discovered a beautiful painting of hers with the Blessed Virgin Mary. http://www.akiane.com/akiane_art.htm# Check it out. Deb
I may have to order a print of "Prince of Peace." A friend I sent that info to emailed me that she was at the Minnesota State Fair last year. Cool.

praying4carmel
Definitely A God Given talent! Her use of Color is amazing. Remember Warner Salmann who painted Christ Knocking at the door, and the head of Christ etc? I was told a story from a Christian bookseller who loves him about His last painting of Christ, He asked Christ to come to Him so that he could paint Him as he really was. Christ complied. His last picture looks eerily similar to this woman's picture of Christ..NOT AS A COPY, but as someone who has actually SEEN the same Man! I wish I could get the Links up here so you could see what I mean. It's not a well known picture and i could not get it thru google.
Galloglasses
I didn't either, I sacrificed my usual taste for full wallpaper size Backgrounds to just have the Mary picture centred.
praying4carmel
OK I finally Found it! http://picturesofjesus4you.com/292.html Do you think that the images look like the same man? The weird thing about Sallman's Picture and this woman's also is that the eyes will follow you wherever you go. Galloglasses
It looks similar, but the hair of Christ in Akiane's Picture looks desert weary, the hair is rough and looks as tough its been cut recently. The Picture that Sallman had painted looks strikingly similar to the traditional image of Christ we see in Statues and, most promenantly, in St.Faustina's image of the Divine Mercy. I think Christ showed Akine what he looked like at a certain point in his Earthly ministry.
