My Review Of The Passion

Recommended Posts

Wow, my first post!

I went to the 0645 Mass today, got Ashed, and saw the 1230 showing of The Passion. Now I'm going out to the 1730 Mass, too. It affects you that much.

BTW, Saw a -lot- of people with Ashes standing in the ticket line...

The most intense movie I've ever seen. I fell in love with Jesus all over again on Ash Wednesday. Reading the book helped immensely.

Truly there are no words but........

Lord Have Mercy.

Our Most Holy Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for us!

I'm a big brave man, and not a whole lot in this world scares me....

....But, wave one of those scourges (flagella) in my general direction and I'll scream like a 6yr old girl. Notice the -razor- blades hanging off the one we got a closeup of???

Also, the Iconic Personification of Satan gave me the willies, too.

I saw it this morning, and it was amesome. All the negative reviews were wrong. It was so realistic, and you could identify with the characters like Pilate, his wife, Mary Magdalene, Peter, Judas, John. The detailed depiction made it seem more alive than just reading the Gospels.

Bro Adam,

I'm very curious to know how you saw the movie in terms of a Baptist perspective--and if anything seemed "too Catholic". When I saw it in the theatre I was lucky enough to sit right next to a couple who kept quoting scripture out loud and saying "Amen" at all the parts I was trying to meditate on. I wanted to stop them afterwords and ask them what they thought of communion as participation in Christ's final sacrifice and if the movie changed how they view Mary, but didn't. Do you have any thoughts on this? Did the movie help you as far as understanding the Church's view on the Eucharist, Mary, the preciousness of His blood (the scene where Mary wipes up his blood after the scourging). All of these things really stood out to me in the movie as they are personally, very important parts of how I worship Jesus... I was just curious about how you viewed these parts, or what stood out to you in the movie...

God bless.

Dust,

I've been watching those Baptists who haven't seen it continue to bash it, and those who have fall into a deeper love with our Savior Jesus Christ.

One Baptist, who believes Catholicism is something akin to Satanism, noted that "Mary was not elavated at all in this film". The anti-Catholics who didn't see the film snorted and commented that Mary worship had to be there somewhere.

I commented to her that this is exactly how Catholics saw Mary- as a mom who went through the agony of watching her first born child tortured and crucified. As you can see, they don't elavate her any higher than they ought to. There is no "Mary Worship" taking place.

Personally, I didn't see the film as particularly Catholic at all, as in " it is Catholic so it must be wrong". I saw the film as a beautiful, yet stinging, portrayl of the suffering of the Lord for our sins. If this is how Catholics view the Passion of the Lord, and if this is Catholic theology at work, then Catholics are Bible Believing Christians, for this is the same account the scriptures give us, with some artistic license from history being taken to fill in details

God Bless,

Bro. Adam
