so, does anyone know of any good (actually Catholic, not "Catholic") books or web-resources for planning a Catholic funeral?

because of several deaths lately, i feel that i just need to get it done, that way if something unfortunate happens, my husband won't have to worry.

When we were planning my grandfather's funeral this December, the priest we worked with had this book he was using to help us pick out readings and music and stuff. I don't remember what the book was called but it was pretty comprehensive....

It's not morbid at all. I always told my clients that the greatest gift they can give the people who love and care about them, is to have your affairs in order so they don't have to guess or wonder about things while they are grieving. I have a large envelope with the music I want at my funeral including the sheet music, a list of everyone I want notified like old college roommates, etc., how to contact my insurance company and other paperwork stuff like that. I even have my obituary written with a list of where I want it sent. Once a year on my birthday, I take it out and update it as a birthday present to myself. It is comforting.

Remember something though, you also need to make sure you have a will, an advance directive, a durable power of attorney, and a even a medical power of attorney. Don't leave anything for anyone to fight over or about. You are just as likely to become disabled at this age as to die young. Even if you think that your family would never fight over such things, do it. I didn't think my family would either, but when my dad died when I was still in school, my brothers, or actually their wives, were fighting over the money so much, that I was left to plan my father's funeral. I even had to write his obituary. I will never forget how hard that was. I never want anyone to go through that because of me. Pre-planning your funeral, even if you don't pre-pay for it, can cut the cost almost in half.

I need to get together my legal stuff. Everyone knows where we want the kids to go, but we need to get it onto paper.

I am going to have a classic funeral, then provide a keg party.

What's the difference between a *my last name* wedding and a *my last name* funeral?

One less drunk at the funeral ;)
