Guest Elizabeth
I have to work on Sundays for the University that I am attending. My "weekend" is Friday and Saturday. I attend Saturday evenging mass and reserve Saturday as my Sabbath (relaxing, reading the Bible, etc.) Am I comitting a mortal sin by not honoring the Sabbath? BLAZEr
Keep Holy the Sabbath. Technically the Sabbath is Saturday. Jews still celebrate their sabbath from Friday evening to Saturday evening. For Christians, because our Lord rose on Sunday, our celebration of the Resurrection has created for us a "new" Sabbath. It is perfectly acceptable for you to go to Mass on Saturday evening. In fact, the Saturday evening mass is technically called the "Sunday Vigil Mass." For the Church Sunday starts on Saturday evening (kinda like the Jews start the sabbath on Friday evening). You are not committing a sin by taking your rest on Saturday. In fact, I'm sure that God is very pleased that you are making this day holy for him by not doing unnecessary work and worshping Him at the Sunday Vigil Mass.
