I just recently learned of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, and they sound like they would be a great fit for me, as they love Our Lady, are orthodox and fully obedient to the Holy Father, and are rather traditional (full habit, the aforementioned devotion to Our Lady, many Masses in Latin, and even the Extraordinary Form of the Mass occasionally). Before I write a letter to them expressing interest in their order, is there anything, good or bad, that I should know about them?

I wrote the cloistered Poor Clares of the Immaculate and one of the father friars from the Mt. St. Francis Hermitage - Maine, NY (their website: http://mtstfrancis.com/) answered me for them and sent me this email of info:

Ave Maria!

Dear Miss ...,

Pax et bonum in Cordibus Iesu et Mariae!

In answer to your questions:
The age limit for vocations to the Poor Clares of the Immaculate is 35, although the monastery in Aulla has made exceptions for older women with strong signs of a vocation. -- Proficiency in Italian is not required, but a willingness to learn obviously is. One of the nuns in Acquapendente is fluent in English, which would make the transition easier if you should enter there. I believe there may be a nun in Aulla who speaks English as well, but I'm not 100% certain.

Following is the email for the Monastery in Acquapendente (Province of Viterbo):
immacolatamia@alice.it
And here's the mailing address of the monastery in Aulla (Province of Massa-Carrara):
Clarisse dell'Immacolata
Monastero "Cuore Immacolato e S. Giuseppe"
Via dell'Immacolata, 1
54011 AULLA (MS)
ITALY
A young lady from Texas was recently accepted at the monastery in Acquapendente, and is now attempting to get her visa. Please say a prayer that it goes well, because it is difficult to get an Italian visa for religious motives if one isn't already professed. We're hoping that she will be the first drop in a flood of vocations from the English-speaking world.

I pray that Our Lady helps you to find the precious pearl of your vocation!

In Corde Matris,
Fr. Johannes M.M. Smith, FI

There are only 3 monasteries of the Poor Clares of the Immaculate (Clarisse dell'Immacolata) and all of them are in Italy.
They are called "roseto bdell'Immacolata" wich means "Rose Garden of the Immaculate"

Monastero "Cuore Immacolato e San Giuseppe"
Via della Brunella 1
54011 Aulla (Massa-Carrara)

Monastero "Roseto dell'Immacolata Porta del Cielo e di San Giuseppe"
Via Rivella 5
36051 Creazzo (Vicenza)

Monastero "Roseto dell'Immacolata e Santa Chiara"
Via Malintoppa 10
01021 Acquapendente (Viterbo)

I hope you have talked to your family about your trip... Otherwise, continue to pray and think of some good questions to ask the Friars.

Wow... that's actually a lovely statement! That devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist and devotion to His Mother can be a basis for unity :) And very true, I think!
