rckllnknny
Do Catholics in general have an opinion on George Bush? Or is this more an individualized descretion? My opinion is hes one of my favorite presidents. i believe in democracy. im not at all yet political. no one seems to like him. but i think hes done an outstanding job. but theres prolly alot about him i dont know. dUSt
Well, I hate to keep making this into a single issue, but I like President Bush because of his stance on abortion. From his actions, it's clear to me that he thinks it's an important issue, and I believe that if the opportunity presented itself, he'd do all that he could to put an end to it. I think I have a Democratic lean towards a lot of issues, and a Republican lean towards many others. It just so happens that abortion is by far the most important issue to me right now, so if I was a voting man, that's what I'd base my vote on. dUSt
Oh--and I'm moving this to Open Mic because it's really more political than theological.
marielapin
I like President Bush. I do not agree with every policy he has put forth, but he has incredible courage to stand up for marriage, and for the unborn. He is not Catholic but his brother Jeb is...I am hoping maybe some of that will rub off on him.
kdewolf2
The whole Iraq business aside, I'd say Pres Bush was pretty decent. I tend to think somewhat more like a Democrat when it comes to health care, economy, foreign policy, civil rights, etc., but no Democrat will stand up for the unborn children, for marriage, etc. I guess you just have to weigh your priorities and decide what is most important to you. In general, I would say that voting is a matter of personal discretion, but you should not buy into the idea that you have to leave your faith and religious beliefs at the door when you go in to vote ("keep religion out of politics"; what right do you have to tell me what criteria I shall or shall not employ when I decide who to vote for?). Thy Geekdom Come
so if I was a voting man, that's what I'd base my vote on. dUSt!!! You don't get out the vote! C'mon, man...! Lil Red
sorry, i can't stand the guy. the only thing going for him is that he's pro-life.
FX2
even though Kerry is Catholic, he is not a true one. Bush is so much better. People seem to forget, he got us through the darkest (or 2nd darkest however you look at it) day in America. He brought us togeather, as a country. He is preventing terrorism from happening again. And besides the terrorism aspect, he has done much for the homeland. Oh and hes pro life. What can be better? 2004 will be the first election i vote in, and as for right now, Bush is the man. PatrickRitaMichael
yeah, i agree. i don't like his foreign or economic policy but abortion is such a big issue, esp. now w/ the partial birth abortion ban potentially in jeopardy, that even though i'm not a fan of bush, i am voting for him in the next election. Carrie
oh, thank God, Carrie!!! i thought i was the only one! You're not alone!! I personally cannot stand him at all. The mention of his name makes my skin crawl. The only thing that redeems him (ever so slightly) is that he's anti-abortion. I won't even call him pro-life, because he's not. Anti-abortion yes, pro-life, no. To me, he's lied to this country and once someone lies to me, I can't trust them anymore. Which leaves me with quite a dilemma this coming election.
