Jews don't really have much to make fun of.
That is what I mean, he knows the limits he can go with the Muslims, but, it seems, with Catholicism, there is no limit. KnightofChrist
Bill Maher is a joke, free speech he may have but we do not have to listen. Of course he'd never get away with the things he says if he was a christian talking about atheist and such.

Guest neilbakker
Let us pray for Bill Maher to come BACK to the Catholic Church (For he was Baptized and Confirmed in the Church), give a good confession, receive absolution for these horrible sins and have true contrition. May the Mercy and Grace of Christ sink into his soul. Wouldn't it be great to have him on our side??
littlesister
Thanks. That's about what I was thinking. Can't help wondering what turned him away.
CatherineM
Have you guys ever watched old episodes of Saturday Night Live, from like the first season? I hadn't seen them in years, and was quite shocked at the stuff they made jokes out of that wouldn't be allowed today. When I first came to Canada, the local comedy shows had such racy stuff, and stuff making fun of politicians in a way that would never be allowed in the states. Have we gotten more sensitive as a society, or more mature in what is actually funny?

Alycin
My parents DVR Bill Maher. We watched the latest episode about him responding to people freaking out about his comments about Catholicism. Let's get real for a moment here. If he had made jokes about the Pope at a time when the pope wasn't in the spotlight, it wouldn't have made big news. Know how I know this? Because Bill Maher bashes Catholics, Christians, Republicans, Democrats, Southerners, MUSLIMS*, Jews, Mormons, Baptists, etc etc etc... all the time. And people don't get up in arms about it. Latin Kings of Comedy, Kings of Comedy, George Carlin, Chris Rock, (and those are the ones I consider to be on the clean side of "comedy")...they mock people all the time. No, it doesn't make it right, but there is always the option of not listening to them. Bill Maher is an atheist and he thinks religion and/or a belief in God is ridiculous. He doesn't get it. He mocks it. What else is new? But you know what? If you watched his shows and got past the shock value, you'd realize that he does have good points at times. He is usually spot-on when criticizing politicians, whether you like to admit it or not. If you watched his show you'd know that he invites Christians on his show a lot and is cordial with them and listens to them and lets them talk.... yeah, he debates with them too. Big deal. Bill Maher comes on HBO. You have to pay for that channel. If you have a problem with Bill Maher, don't get HBO. If enough people were bothered by Maher, and took that action, THEN it might have an effect. Other than that... change the channel! *To the person who said "if he talked about muslims or jews this way..." uhhhh... newsflash. He does! Justin86
Free speech means the government can't interfere with your right to say whatever you want. It has nothing to do with private citizens demanding someone be fired. I would however agree with Alycin with this one: cancel HBO if this offends you so much. Most of the shows cable companies air are pieces of croutons anyway. You're paying for croutons. Stop hurting yourself.
dominicansoul
http://spiritdaily.com/mahervile.htm This was my whole intention in starting this thread. If you don't agree, you don't agree, but for those of you who wish to do something about it rather than staying silent, then, here's another link that may help. The reason evil spreads is because the good do nothing.
