Definitely not. If you want to see what the New Madrid fault is capable of, check out the [url="http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/states/10_largest_us.php"]20 largest[/url] earthquakes in US history. Three of them occurred within three months of each other from 1811-1812 at New Madrid, MO. Hardly anybody lived in that area of the country then and the nearest cities were far enough away to suffer only minor damage (and I doubt even St. Louis was more than 50,000 people back then). It would be a very different story today, though.

In other words, imagine three earthquakes hitting mid-America, each between 100 and 1,000 times worse than today's (the Richter scale is exponential, so a 6.4 is ten times worse than a 5.4). That would put the fear of God in some folks.
