She should make a statement apologizing.

How is this art? What is the message?
Exactly... if the purpose of art is to inspire virtue, then this is not art. It is simply filth.

:) I was being sarcastic ;) I don't know about art inspiring virtue.

I can see art in the strangest ways. I honestly think that the human body is a piece of art. It is beautiful. But sin is not beautiful and sin is not art.

She says that she did not care what it did for her body. Did she not stop to think what it did to the baby's body? Did she not stop to think of all the wives and husbands who have trouble concieving? Did she not think about how much they long to see and hold a child of their own? Here she is knowingly and willing becoming pregnant only to knowingly and willing abort without one thought.

Tomorrow I am going to care for babies and new moms. I am sickened by this story. I am angered by this story. I cannot believe that this is what we have to show to God after all these years.

It has been a long night/day...I apologize if this post is illogical or incoherent.

Very sad, even if it does turn out to be a hoax. You know, I've read that some pro-choicers have been weirded out by this.

Madame Vengier

It's a hoax. It was confirmed this evening. Yale issued a statement that the hoax was all a part of her "art expression" and standing by her rights to free speech and to free expression of her "art" in whatever form it takes. Outrageous. Here's the statement:

http://www.yale.edu/opa/
New Haven, Conn. — April 17, 2008

Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art. Her art project includes visual representations, a press release and other narrative materials. She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body.

She is an artist and has the right to express herself through performance art.

Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns.
I'd say Miss Shvarts qualified for "mental health concerns" quite a while ago. Really sad and pathetic.

It was a hoax. That anyone could even come up with such an idea is a sad commentary on U.S. higher education. As repulsive as the idea is, I feel sorry for the girl. Something vital was missing somewhere along the line, and probably in many places along the line.

“Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art,” a Yale spokeswoman, Helaine Klasky, said. “She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages.

She certainly accomplished one of her goals: to shock the public and get some attention.

it was just satire. That makes it all better.

Actually, I've read that she's sticking to her story. You can read more here. Here's what someone said in the comments:
If putting plastic prosthetics into one’s skull can be body art, why not an abortion?

It’s her body. The only sad thing is how much outrage it has caused.

As an art project, at first blush it seems very tame. Boring almost. This is the sort of art that perhaps shouldn’t be interesting, but is, simply because it points out how medieval our society still is.

Yeah, we're so medieval and prudish. You see, aborting babies isn't about choice anymore; it's about art and all that is true and beautiful in the world.

I've read that a lot of pro-choicers are outraged by her "piece," which is pretty interesting.

According to the website of the Yale University Office of Public Affairs, it was a hoax.
