Lena
The Painted Veil-W. Somerset Maugham the movie focused on a romance aspect that wasn't in the book , really it is more so about a woman's connection to the wonderfully-described Sisters she meets in China, and about spiritual growth and acceptance of life and herself. I loved the characterization of the Mother Superior, and it's just a good book all around. ...oh how did I forget The Lilies of the Field? there is a movie version of this as well, not sure if the book is still in print, but it's the cutest book. and Frost in May-Antonia White. kind of cynical though. johnnydigit
wow have you guys read most of the classics already? i'm still working on those before i get to these types of novels.. anywho i finally got around to reading Confessions by St. Augustine and am loving it. as you may know St. Augustine was a playboy and all around "bad boy" but later became a bishop and Saint. he talks about his rocky journey, yet with a great love of God. i like Fr. Groeschel and his approach to spirituality with modern psychology, and St. Augustine is his favorite, so if you like that kind of thing you may like this also. kafka
If I had 200 million dollars to spend I would write, produce, direct, and star in Mr. Blue by Myles Connolly. To say I love that book is an understatment.

Vin
There is a great old film version of the Diary of A Country Priest, directed by famed director Robert Bresson. Mr. Blue as a film? Why don't we get in touch with Gibson, Cavezial, Verastegui, and Monteverde about that? Maybe some folks on the phorum could read it and weigh in on the idea. The apocalypse in Mr. Blue could be quite a scene.
