curtins
5 minutes is not a long kiss.
I would imagine 5 min would turn into making out (as distinguished as a "session" type bit often with other touching etc going on) in which case it could end up being longer than 5 min........ again going back to what I said about passions kicking in..... I guess you could have a short "french kiss" that I guess wouldn't be particularly immoral, however I find the idea of sticking your tongue down someones throat and vice versa to be a bit repulsive.... Guest
Ya, so my question is are catholic males in their mid twenty's to late thirty's all married or all priest ? What about all the singles. Are they all just holding hands with the women they are dateing ? It seems as if a grown man would be doing things with the women he is dateing. Not that this is right but its a bit nieve to sit here and say that its not happening. Say somone like derek jeter who's catholic. Has he just been commiting mortal sin for the last 15 years ? And if so why is he looked at as such a role model ? Not that I dont think he is but im just asking It just seem like its a such doulbe standard going on. Certian people can flaunt their sin and are looked at as fine while others are constanly being condemed and told they are commiting mortal sin and are going to hell. I'm not sure what you are implying by "doing things" with women and I don't understand how you arrive at Derek Jeter or a double standard.

Ok derek jeter is a professing catholic and he's always dateing these beautiful women. Am I supposed to assume that he's not doing anything sexual with them ? And if he is what is to much ? I guess the good answer is I shouldnt be concerned about it but yet he's celebrated for dateing beautiful women. So unless Im gonna be totally nieve im pretty sure he's doing more then just holding hands and occasionally haveing a 30 second kiss with these women. He's a grown man it just doesnt add up. Plus Mariah probally wouldnt go for it. Yet he's celebrated as a "good catholic" Is it because he's good looking that it makes it ok ? So I guess sometimes I have a difficult time when fellow catholics on here are telling me its a mortal sin to makeout and do that type of stuff with a girl who you love and are dateing. Although at the same time it makes sence to me I guess. But its just all confuseing because my life expercience of growing up has been if you dont have sex with the person you're dateing you're dong a darn good job. But it seems as if I and about 90 percent of other dateing couples have been wrong if they hold this view. Edited March 25, 2008 by Guest
curtins
To be better than the worst is not goodness. I know its not easy to accept, and probably harder to accept it if you grew up thinking contrary, however its really in the best interest. Someone mentioned that kids today think making out is an automatic and thats true- I see it. Even good kids who go to church and take their faith seriously- all they hear is "don't have sex" and they're fine with that- but they never hear that chastity is more than just not having sex.... Well said. I just get pissed sometimes. Im'a 26 year old guy who struggles with staying pure and yet doesnt have sex and now im to the point where I full out know its a mortal sin to even do other stuff. And I dont think I'll ever get married so I know its gonna be a life without sex and basically a life without even touching a women, unless I want to commit mortal sin. Which I dont becuase God has been to good to me but yet its such a stuggle. Edited March 25, 2008 by Guest
Slappo
Delivery Boy, I wouldn't be so quick to think that you'll never be married, unless that is your seriously discerning the priesthood/religious life. Everyone has a vocation in life the lay single life isn't a true vocation even though it is what some people end up doing their entire life. I'd be more then happy to discuss vocations in a diff thread though as I don't want to hi-jack my own thread . I would say that the majority of "Good Catholics" as the media portrays... are not "saintly Catholics." I don't want to be just a good Catholic... I want to be a holy and saintly one, which means I need to be pure and chaste. Another thing with sins against chastity and them being mortal sins. They are most definitely sins of grave matter (fornication, adultery, pornography, masturbation...), but especially when habit has built up, they may no longer be sins that have full consent and would therefore be sins of grave matter, but venial because you didn't fully will to do them. Get direction from a priest for more help with this. It's hard.
