CICCIO
In my morality class last year we talked about drinking alcohol. I was told that drinking was ok provided the intention is not to get drunk and that one should stop before that happens? So, whats up? Is this true? What does one do? Just wondering, Thanks. BLAZEr
First of all, the Church teaches that we should obey our secular authority. So that means, that you should not drink illegally. Which means 21 in the United States. Second, drinking is ok as long as it is done in moderation. You should never take an excess of anything. Drinking included. Getting drunk is not only an excess, it is also irresponsible because you give over your free will. You are not able to make decisions (including moral ones) with the same capacity as when you are sober. Drinking is not sinful, but drunkness and the lack of good decision making that comes with drunkeness is sinful.
