Friday Penance Throughout The Year

We've always celebrated St. Pat's day, I'm not down on that at all (I hope it didn't sound like I was). Its just that the comments reminded me of one year when I was at Christendom, St. Patty's fell on a Friday in Lent, so the prez of the college wrote the Bishop to get a dispensation so they could have the full on celebration he likes, which includes Guiness Beef and other meats and beer for everyone. There were people who didn't have a drop of Irish blood running in their veins, and generally wouldn't really care one way or another who were all for it just because they "got off the hook." I personally would just as soon continue with my fast and celebrate differently, or on the next day--I don't think St. Patrick would mind too much. ;) Thats just me though. I'm all for celebrating, though, so long as its for the right reasons. :)

WE always get a dispensation  for the corned beef and cabbage if it was Friday.

haha Thats cool. :D I know I would feel differently if it were a case of always getting a dispensation, but in the particular one I mentioned it wasn't, which is why I tend to wrinkle my nose at it, I guess. lol
