Nice video....one question.....

In the pronouncement of the profession, the friar says "according to the Rule of St. Augustine"......I thought the Dominicans had their own rule? Am I mistaken? Can someone please clarify? Thanks so much.

Nope, Dominicans follow the Rule of St. Augustine. It's right in the first paragraph on this page: http://www.domcentral.org/trad/domspirit/spirit01.htm If you're interested in learning about the Dominicans, I'd recommend reading Fr. Hinnebusch's "Dominican Spirituality". It's an amazing overview (just click "INDEX" at the bottom of that page and it'll take you to the introduction and table of contents. The whole thing's on that site. It's great).

Thanks for the reply....I guess I just never gave it any thought...I mean, St. Dominic is certainly a "big player" (I mean no disrespect, just being colloquial)....I just automatically thought he'd written a Rule of Life.

If I'm correct, the Pope had told him that all this new order business was great, but he didn't want any more Rules of Life going around, so he could just pick an existing one. And St. Dominic chose the Rule of St. Augustine.

St. Dominic was a very humble man. I am not surprised that he would choose a rule already written by another great saint rather than write his own. Unfortunately, he did not leave much written about himself. Rather, he left an example, and 800 years later, this example continues to inspire and impact the Holy Catholic Church. Thanks for the video link, Veritas!
