Katt1227
Does the new GIRM say anything about holding hands during the Lord's Prayer. My parish at home used to hold hands during the Our Father when I was growing up, but now they don't. In fact most of the diocese at home doesn't hold hands. However, I go to school in Lexington, and at my parish here we do hold hands. Id there anything in the GIRM that dictates which is preferred or is it left open to different parish communities to decide?? Thanks
BLAZEr
Kat, The GIRM is silent on this matter. There is no specified posture during the Our Father at mass. It is not up to the parish to decide, it is up to you. This means two things: 1. No posture is required 2. No posture can be imposed To have everyone hold hands during the Our Father would in fact be innapropriate because it would IMPOSE a gesture where none is required. However, if during the Our Father, some people chose to hold each others hands (as a family or friends, etc.) then there is nothing wrong with that. You are free to join in the hand holding or not.
