aalpha1989
Nothin' wrong with the classics. Casablanca is definitely one of my favs. Old movies are almost always better than new movies. 12 Angry Men is also one of my favorites. CatherineM
Quiet Man and Long Gray Line for showing Irish Catholics in a good light. I also like Night of the Iguana because I spent a lot of time in Mexico during that time, and it doesn't look like that anymore, so it's kind of like time travel. I'm also a sucker for any of the old bible based movies like Ben Hur, Robe, etc.

aero
A few years ago the CBC (at least in Halifax) used to show really old movies really late at night. I was in university and couldn't afford cable (it was that or eat), so I used to watch those old movies A LOT... some of my favourites are: Mrs Miniver (1942 best picture) One of Our Aircraft is Missing Casablanca and a bunch more. I don't know if they show these old movies anymore or not, but I loved it when they did. I have a general interest in the 1940s, so I love those old WWII era movies. Thomist-in-Training
"It Happened One Night" "Cheaper by the Dozen," the OLD one, not the one with Steve Martin. I dunno if the family was Catholic, but the movie is right in line with Catholic sensibilities--truly funny, but also a strong moral baseline. There's a PRICELESS scene which you must rent the movie to see! You'll see which one...
