Well if any of you watch the news, you know that the Jewish community is appalled and outraged at Mel Gibson's new movie, The Passion of the Christ (premiering next Wednesday in Pennsylvania, for all of those who live here). The Jewish community can not believe that Mel Gibson actually used the Bible to back up the Biblical teachings of Christ being crucified. Believe it or not Mr. and Mrs. Jewish Family, your own people crucified him! It will NOT be revised. If it is, I'll be appalled at Gibson as well. The funny thing is that the Jews don't want to be seen as cruel, in which they were to Jesus Christ. So, what do you think about it?

The funny thing is, the Jews are whoever the media wants them to be. Meaning the media isn't going to talk to the Jews that think it's an amesome film (and there are many, believe me). They are presenting their propaganda and it makes me ill.

ugh, it's annoying.

didn't Mel give into pressure and take the seen out that said "let His blood be upon us and our children"

:( that's dumb. don't they realize we're all spiritually semetic, we're all spiritually children of the Jews... it's all our fault and that Scripture means that, that the PEOPLE WHO WROTE THAT were ACTUALLY HEBREW, THEY WERE ACTUALLY the "children" spoken of... it's original intent was it's all of our faults, and in a physical way it was also the Jews of the time and the Jewish religion that ignored their own Messiah.

oye vey

Oi vé indeed my friend, oi vé indeed. I think it's disgusting that people thing that they're not responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus. Oh and by the way, to make this clear, I didn't mean it as the Jews are all to blame for it. We're all to blame. However, I tend to see they're one of the only organizations speaking out against it besides the normal atheistic conventions like the ACLU.

I don't get the problem with the film. If it follows the Gospels than whats the problem. The Jews wanted Christ killed, as did the Romans. But that is physcial. We are all resopible for the death of Christ. "My sins are the blood on Christ on the Cross."

May I offer a few objective points???

1 - The Jewish people as well as the Romans perpetrated the death of Christ.

2 - The Jewish people are our elder brothers.

3 - The Jewish people seem to want to remember the past and dwell on it, rather than do anything to change the NOW and guide the FUTURE.

4 - It would do well for the Jewish people to leave the Bible alone, BECAUSE they have its first 5 books as its TORAH.

My thoughts:

The Jewish "people" the media is refering to is probably like 5 people with an axe to grind.

Most likely the majority of the Jewish population could care less. Some even support the film (uh, the actress playing Mary is a Jew).

If the movie was so "scandelous" then they should get a load of the entire New Testament! If they want to censor the movie, then they should likewise want to censor the New Testament. I very much dislike the two-faced talk.

Contrary to what the media says, it isn't the movie itself that will cause anti-semitism. In fact, it is the media who is insighting anger and division. The media wants and needs anti-semitism to stay alive for it's own sake (i.e. the more "drama" that is happening in the world the better off they are). It is really the media who is being anti-semetic, because they want to see them angry at us, they want to see us angry at them, they want to see everyone angry at everyone.

If the media really cared about things offending people, then for the sake of the German people, maybe they should wish to describe how offensive it is to continue to have documenteries and films made about the holocaust. I mean, that could insight anti-German feelings! Right?

Maybe they should "warn" people about slavery films or documentaries on the abuse of black people. This could insight anti-white feelings.

Give me a break. The media could not care less about the Jews. They'll take a stab at anything remotely "conservative" or remotely "Catholic / Christian". It's their duty.

Ignore the media - because whether you activly support or reject them, they've done their job in getting a rise out of you.

As Jim and Mel have said, the Movie is a LOVE story. It's going to be great.

Actually, I think it's Yiddish. If so, it would be roman letters.

I'm glad you said this. I was starting to worry. :o

LOL Sometimes I forget to add parts of my own arguments. I'm such a dope...

Oi vé was Yiddish, yeah, but the French stole the line and that's how I got the Roman letter derivation. ;)

Yiddish is a Germanic language just like English. I'm pretty sure it uses the same alphabet we do. (HM.......thicke wonders how he got so off-topic)....... :D

Actually, Mel didn't take the scene out. He just didn't subtitle it. You c an here the words in the background in Aramaic... that is... if you speak Aramaic... which I do not.

Also, and Gibson said this, if his movie is going to promote hatred of the jews, than no one should be able to watch Schindler's List anymore.

I have only ever seen it as oy vey! so don't worry about putting the accents in.

As far as the fear of the Jewish community, I thought the same things that you guys are saying before someone in my RCIA class asked Father Tony about it and he said that some Jewish people are scared and they have a right to be, considering all that's been done. I thought about it and I think that yes, the Jewish people have a right to be scared about anti-semitism because it does exist and they have the right to fear a movie that supposedly adds fuel to the fire. BUT, I think that in this case, the fear is unfounded and the media is the one to blame. They're the ones (I think Jake was saying this) who are saying all this stuff about the movie being anti-semitic and bringing up stuff about Mel's dad saying he's anti-semitic (who knows? who cares, he didn't write the movie). All these people are saying it's anti-semetic before seeing the movie and what's a person to believe? If I were Jewish and I heard all this, I would be scared, too. Maybe once more people see the movie after it comes out people's fears will be set to rest. You can't fault the Jewish community for having their guard up -- the Holocaust is not that far back in history -- but we can try and let people know what the movie is about and how it's about love and that WE love Jewish people, too. :)
