Found Out Why My Mom Is Ill...

A little while ago I posted a prayer intention about my Mom being very ill. The doctor deduced that she has an obstructed bile duct which caused her to have problems with digestion and caused her skin to turn yellow (jaundice) and become very itchy. We were hoping that a gallstone had lodged it self there and was causing the problems. Well, it turns out they found a tumor of some kind. They have run more tests to see if it's malignant and what kind of tissue it came from. She's going to hospital again this next week. We'd appreciate any kind of prayers, advice, information, comfort, etc.

Thank you everyone. It seems that all of our prayers are paying off, but we're not out the woods yet. I just got the following email from my Dad:
We just got back from Dr. Epple's office, a gastroenterologist, here in
Lincoln. She had a PET scan yesterday. Its results are back as well as the
permanent slides of the biopsy. The tumor is about the size of a quarter and
does not seem to have any invasion nor metastasis. The slides do not
conclusively indicate duct vs pancreas. Either possible by cell type. The
duodenoscopy indicated tumor of ampula most likely. Because of family
history (on her father side they all died form complications of diabetes or
bowel cancer) she will be having a colonoscopy. Here in Lincoln the death
rate of the procedure to remove a tumor in this location is less than 1%.
Beth wants to stay here for now. Procedure to be done 2-3 weeks.

Beth is feeling a bit better. She did get some sleep last night. Jaundice is
better, much better. Itching still a problem but better.
Deo Gratias!

Tell her to eat artichokes. When I got jaundice because of gall stones, and having my gall bladder removed at 19, they told me to eat artichokes because they help the body better regulate bile, and can help reduce gall bladder inflammation. It sounds like she is getting quality care. It took them forever to figure out what mine was because 19 year olds aren't supposed to get gall stones.

 • 2 weeks later...

My parents met with the surgeon today and they scheduled her to come in on Thursday morning. They said it was adenocarcinoma (cancer of the glandular tissue) and the procedure is called a Whipple procedure, which is kinda risky. The procedure will be for four hours and then she has to be in the hospital for about a week.
