Norseman82
Single is a state of life, not a formal vocation. The Church universal has never formally declared it such (as opposed to certain individuals who speculate that there is a single vocation). If it has and I was asleep , I'd like to know. Unlike marriage or clerical or vowed life, it is not permanent; there is no canonical impediment to later marrying or being ordained or entering formal religious life, except for divorced people when their spouse is still alive and their marriage has not been found to be null. Besides, with the difficulty in finding a good Catholic spouse these days (as well as the priest/nun shortage), why on earth would we want to encourage people (especially women) to take themselves "off the market", so to speak? We need more good Catholics making themselves available for marriage (or religious life), not less!! Ask yourself why you are staying single and whether you are selfishly denying the Church a religious vocation or another Catholic in need a spouse.
