To tell you the truth, I was just happy he had a moral code, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

So often the underlying message of movies around now is like "It's all relative" or, "if you thought something was morally wrong, don't worry about it, you're young, let me give you some real-world experience and you'll see how you really do have to do evil to do good," "what you thought was morally true, wasn't" etc.

I was SO happy when, even though it wasn't the most satisfying ending from a human perspective, cause you want everyone to be happy and loved and cared for! He stuck to his beliefs (which were moral and right beliefs from a Catholic perspective I think, about not stealing and abducting children just randomly, you have to go through Social Services and stuff if you think something's actually wrong).

I was happy about that. And that there was Catholic culture in movies. I always like that :) And I don't think it was negatively portrayed, I think it was probably very realistic considering the time and place.

Whether he felt it was actually right or not for the little girl to be with her crackhead mother or not, she was the legal mother, and as an officer of the law/etc private investigator/whatever he was, there is no relativity, he did the legal and technically right thing. Yes Morgan Freeman's character was probably the best for her, but he made the right decision. Like Snowcatpa said, there is too much "it's all relative" action in movies and TV nowadays. We have a moral code we must stick to to keep the world spinning the right way.

I'm really surprised more people haven't seen Gone Baby Gone! Or had some reaction to it. It's one of the rare mainstream movies, (an ACTION movie at that), that's like, Catholic like woah.

Does anyone else have any reaction? I think it's a good movie to think about.

alright, so ive watched it twice now. watching it the second time strengthened my conviction that he did the right thing. this was such a good movie. sometimes the right thing is painfully difficult and sometimes the right thing might not feel all that right. but i think that he was definitely in the right in that situation.

yeah. how true! ben affleck had a very good first movie with this one. i like it. to me, it just seemed much more grounded in human nature than many others. the struggle was real, the questions, the feelings that accompany hard decisions...everything. i thought it was very good.

I am sooo late.

Just saw this movie. It was excellent!!!

Wow--a movie with a Catholic character who actually tries to do what is right, guided by his morality, grounded in the Catholic faith.

If this is the kind of movies Ben Affleck is making, I can't wait for his next one.

If you haven't seen it, rent it!!!

The Bus Station

I saw this movie a few months ago, it was pretty good. I remember the character of the girl's crackhead mother was so repulsive -- great actress.

I found the movie to be pretty disturbing. I noticed there are not a lot of the phat moms on this thread beacuse I would imagine this kind of film gets much harder to watch when you ahve kids of your own. Overall though, the plot was very interesting. Ben Alfleck suprised me with the direction as well.

I think he unquestionably did the right thing. Nice to see for a change....
