I Have A 'stupid' Question

Chaya

Recommended Posts

as my DH forbade me to join the Church, i have felt the need to have some "sacred space" (dunno how to call it) at home. i hope that in the long run, praing, reading and contemplating there will help me getting out of the whole i'm in, and overcome the anger i feel towards my husband.

but i heard, or read -can't remember where- that when making such a place in your home, there are some do's and don'ts if it is to be appropriate and not offensive. had a joined the Church, i would simply have asked the priest to come by my house and ask him. but now...

i took some pictures and would like your opinion. is this acceptable, or is there something wrong, or offensive? my children like to go there too. it's next to my desk, a low-traffic area but accessible for everybody nevertheless, to the east (well, almost).

i hope you don't think i' silly, but i want to make right everything.

It is beautiful. What a lovely spot to commune with the Lord. I do want to note-and it is none of my business but-it really scares me that you say your DH will not let you go to church. Something is very wrong with that. I will pray for you and your family.

I think its great that you took the initiative to make such a space. Good for you, God bless and I hope you will persist in your efforts to join the church.

all was ok with him until things became 'serious' and i called the priest. he made it known that he does not want me to join the catholic church, and make our children join, too. he wants me to keep going with them to the mennonite church here (30 min drive). i have nothing against them, they are very nice people, and the kids like the camps and such, but spiritually it is not fulfilling for me. my DH was raised reformed (calvinist) and said he has something against such organized religion like in the catholic hurch, and all it's "useless" stuff that is more fancy than anything i.e. decorated churches, incence, altar boys, the hierarchy, the bells, man-made doctrines, the pope who for him is the biggest guru in the world...

*sighs*

thank you for your prayers!

Your sacred space is lovely and you can feel the peace just radiating from that area.
I can understand your quest for family peace, but your husband's authority does not extend to your spiritual life or your soul. That is between you and God. Put yourself on our prayer board please.
Encourage your husband to come and ask questions, and make sure he understands that your are not worshipping your statues they are mere reminders of your family in heaven.

Spamity Calamity

Hey Chaya I really like what you have done. I don't think anybody could find anything offensive about it. You make me want to do something similar when I have a home. I'm sorry that your husband is closed to Catholicism. Next rosary I pray I will dedicate to your husband softening his views.

It is beautiful. :) You must have put such thought into it.

I second what Cmum said about your husband's authority. He has no right to forbid you to go to church. The question of the children's religious education will be more difficult to resolve, but as an adult woman you should be allowed to practise any religion that you choose and pray anywhere that you like.

I will pray for your family.

Actually, in matters of faith where the church is concerned your husband cannot prevent you from going to church, nor educating your children in the faith.
