Ash Wednesday

I HATE LOOKING AT WEDDING STUFF!!!

I feel like a lot of this is a bunch of b.s. where companies are just trying to make as much money as possible off of poor people that are afraid of looking low class, cheap or tacky.

I SHOULD JUST MAKE THE FREAKING WEDDING AS DELIBERATELY CHEAP AND TACKY AS POSSIBLE, HAVE MY INVITES BE POST IT NOTES, SERVE WINE OUT OF A BOX AND HAVE A WEDDING CAKE MADE OF TWINKIES AND DING DONGS!!!!!

:annoyed: :annoyed:   :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :wine: :wine: :furious: :furious: :furious: :maddest: :maddest: :maddest: :marriage: :paperbag: :paperbag:

my wedding was done cheaply, but it didn't look cheap. :) my mom and grandma made my wedding dress, we had it at the church i attend (so no cost there), and my hubby's dad hosted the reception. :) it was :punk:

you can do it! :)

My brother had a very simple and inexpensive wedding too. The ceremony took place in a little chapel belonging to the army, and the reception was just a garden-party. My sister's wedding involved a big hotel and a fancy dinner, but I preferred my brother's - it felt friendlier and it was a lot more fun. Don't feel pressured to organise a huge, elaborate wedding if you don't want one.

I know what you mean, Ash. We actually printed our own invites, and they still looked really nice. And we used my grandfather's juke box for music at the reception. :)

I remember reading once about someone who managed to assemble a decent wardrobe just by going to Goodwill, so if you really want to be cheap about it, get the wedding dresses and tuxedos from Goodwill.

I have lots of great tips if you would like.

PLUS I love the forum: http://www.weddingbells.ca

It is Canadian, but they have lots of frugal tips.

So does http://www.frugalbride.com

Are you looking for a dress?

:lol_pound: This reminds me of when we (Ash n I) checked out the price per head of the 'Oscar Wilde wedding package' :scream: For the price of one starter 'confit of duck and fois gras terrine', you can buy a year's supply of twinkies and ding dongs. :ohno:

The thing is the priceless things are what'll make it awesome...the Church is simply beautiful...and so is the bride, so you've got those sorted. ;)

We spent less than $1000 on our wedding 2 years ago, and half of that was for his suit that we continues to wear. I made my gown, and we had an inexpensive cake. We took the money that we would have spent on a big wedding, and put a down payment on our condo instead. My niece got married four years ago (her dad is 15 years older than I am so she is closer in age to me than he is), and they spent over $10,000, and are now bankrupt and divorced. When I did divorces, the three main reasons that the marriages were under stress were adultery, inlaw/ex issues, and finances. Marriage is difficult enough without starting out under a Monte Python anvil waiting to fall.

I know someone who got an invitation to a wedding handwritten on a post card. With a stamp that was the picture of the bride and groom to be.
