June 1, 2007 Hi Everyone, This is Matt Smith from lifeteen.com. I wanted to let you all know that we're closing down Teen Talk today. This was a very hard decision for us because we know that Teen Talk means a lot to many people. It's not fun to be the bearer of bad news. But the truth is that we've prayed about this for a long time. Almost a year, actually. In the beginning, Teen Talk was somewhat of an online community for this website. But over the years, these message boards have gone through many cycles. Sometimes the stuff here is good, sometimes it's aggressive and unkind. Those bullies can chase away good-hearted folks and give other visitors to the site the wrong impression. Its for this reason that many websites like ours have dropped Message Boards all together. Another reason we're closing Teen Talk is because we want to do more of the things you've told us that you like: videos, audio, photos, and maybe some new video games. We have a small staff (3 people), and we can do a better job with new things once Teen Talk is not on our to-do list each day. Since we first announced this change to the website, we kept Teen Talk up so everyone could say goodbye to one another. Hopefully you can all hang out at camp this summer! In Christ, Matt Smith webmaster@lifeteen.com
Edited January 26, 2008 by fiat voluntas tua

I talk to it all the time and it wishes that someone had given it some money so that it didn't have to "poof."

But we would certainly be open to some "unpoofing."

kujo
how much $$ would you need?
I have no idea. One of the main problems was the amount of time and effort necessary to keep the thing running was so huge that it basically overtook all of our downtime. Chris (or "Jezreel") is married with 4 kids, 3 of whom are under 4 years old. He works full time as a youth minister and part time as the administrators of his wife's private social worker practice. I am a full time college student and I have to work upwards of 30 hours a week in order to pay my bills. So, needless to say...we were strapped for time. I say all of that not to glorify our work but to state a very plain fact: the cost of the site itself is just part of what it would take to get it back up. We would need to have a bunch of people working behind the scenes to keep everything running on top of doing pHp and other coding. Additionally, we'd need people to work on fundraising, bringing in investors and users into the site. We'd also need people to deal wth content and moderating (like what we've got here). So you see, there would be a whole army of people needed and, quite frankly, some (most?) of those people would need to be compensated for their time and energies. Nothing big, but certainly something to offset the loss of time with their families. Again, at this point in time, we have no figures or anything. But, if God's will were to have CatholicTeens come back, we are certainly open to it. In our view, it ran its course but, if He's got more in store for it, I know I speak for all of the people at Catholic Youth Advocates Inc. when I say BRING IT ON!!!
