In the Roman Rite leavened bread is strictly forbidden.

Can. 926 According to the ancient tradition of the Latin Church, the priest is to use unleavened bread in the eucharistic celebration whenever he offers it.

None of the pictures I saw were of Eastern Rite Churches.
How do you know they weren't Eastern Rite?

As for the outfit, I thought all servers wore them, although, come to think of it, adult servers at our Church do not.

First, the vestments were Latin.

Second, every Eastern Rite Liturgy I've ever attended gave Holy Communion under both Sacred Species in the form of intinction, where the two Species are mixed. The laity do not even touch the spoon, but allow the Priest to place our Lord in their mouths.

Plus, there were a few missing icons.

As for albs, the traditional dress for altar servers is a (black) cassock and white surplice. However, I learned to serve in an alb (and found it quite awkward).

Servant of the Secret Fire
Also, yes, it is "common" to hand the chalice to the communicant to take a sip. Whether it is correct, however, is another question.

Welcome to the Canadian Church!
Maybe this is a silly question but how else would you distribute the Precious Blood (other than by intinction)????

Seems to me that even if the minister kept one hand on the chalice that would make spillage likely.

Am I being stupid here and missing some obvious way of drinking from a cup someone else is holding?

From my personal experience so far, in my locality, the Eucharist is usually given under the species of bread alone. However, in some cases, such as during a Mass for a special occasion, or during someone's First Communion or Confirmation, the Eucharist is given under both species. In such a case, the method of intinction is used. That's why this appeared new to me. I had not been aware that there were any other methods of distributing the Precious Blood.

Ah right.

Yeah, where I live, the usual practice is to drink from the chalice, and generally both species are distributed when possible, even at weekday Masses. Hence my surprise at the comment.
