Anyone Into Anime?

If so, what are some of your favorites? Being that it comes from a generally non Christian culture, do you ever find yourself "at odds" with some of the themes or teachings? Or do you ever find themes or morals that actually fit in pretty well with your beliefs or otherwise bring about good in you from a spiritual point of view?
Here are my favorites:

Deathnote-In addition to being extremely entertaining and stylish, I found it very thought provoking and it got me thinking about what really makes a person good or bad, if humans have the right to take a life, etc. So in that respect I think I could say it was good for my faith!

Fruits Basket-Just adorable and sweet. And I love the expressions of extreme Japanese politness and manners, it definitely makes me want to have better etiquette!

Yu Yu Hakusho- Totally fun, can't say it was too thought provoking or anything as it is complete fantasty. Although, I will say that the focus on honor can't be a bad thing, especially as this was/is mainly geared toward kids, I believe. (But I don't care, it's still awesome).

I also like Ouran High School Host Club, even though it's aimed at 13 year old girls. I'm watching "Le Chevalier D'Eon right now, which is beautifully animated and interesting, but does pose some problems for me faith wise. The views of the Catholic religion are very skewed an incoporate the occult, which I think could be OK in a sense as it is just fantasy, but at times I do wonder if it's good for me to be watching. I've seen some of Trinity Blood, which is about the Vatican fighting off vampires. The "Church" in this anime/manga definitely bears to resemblance to the actual Catholic Church other than the ensembles, but I found it more ridiculous (robot priests?) than offensive.

Anyone else have some favorites or thoughts on anime in general?

(Refering to OP) From what I've heard, Japan is big on making cartoons for every age group, not just kids. I've heard of that "Trinity Blood" cartoon. It's quite odd... I've seen some of it. There is a vampire priest (I joked with a friend... "how does he say mass? I mean, as soon as he consecrates the Eucharist his skin would burn!" lawl), and woman cardinals. Strange hats too... oh well. Anime is anime... I don't mind it.

And I've talked to the creator recently, who said that work on part 2 continues, and better than ever. :)

Hello, I'm Dismas, and I'm an anime junkie.

Martian Successor Nadesico is an absolute favorite. I've watched it dozens of times, and it still doesn't stop me from laughing.

Sadly, I enjoy the Excel Saga far too much for my own good, particularly the remnants of my sanity.

Bubblegum Crisis (OVA more than 2040) and Armitage III are interesting.

I like Ranma 1/2, and while it is intentionally risqué for the audience, it is affirmative towards marital purity.

I'll occasionally watch others such as 801 T.T.S. Airbats, Love Hina, Dominion Tank Police, etc.

I never really cared for Evangelion, it was too preachy and took itself way too seriously.

Yeah, TB was a bit strange...I didn't find it disrespectful as much as silly; my interest kinda fizzled out, though the animation is beautiful. The Vampire priest thing is definitely a weird thought...though actually the character you're referring to was like a vampire who attacks other vampires...and yeah, the logic here is way to messed up, no wonder I didn't finish the series :)

Big time Anime addict here. I find that most of their stories have more complex and developed characters than Hollywood movies. The stories are rich, fresh and genuine. And as far as the Christian connection? Yes, they are a traditionally non-Christian culture, but Anime is OOOOZING with Christian symbolism. Crosses are found everywhere, a lot of topics deal with mysteries of Christianity, it would take me forever to list them. The anime I'm watching now (Le Chevalier D'Eon) is rich with Christian context. Yes, it's defenitely not a billboard promoting the Catholic Church, but it outlines the Japanese Anime culuture's infatuation with Christianity as a whole. If anything, maybe Le Chevalier could steer someone towards the Psalms or maybe become more interested with the mysteries of our faith. It's a double-edged sword, but it's better than nothing in my view.

Here are some of my faves:

Le Chevalier D"Eon
Robotech
Noir
Madlax
Full Metal Alchemist
Tsukihime Lunar Legend
Samurai X
Macross Plus
Ninja Scroll
Basilisk
Demon eyes Kyo
Deathnote
Spirited Away
Black Lagoon
Elfen Lied

and many others
I'd like to get into anime. but all I ever find is porn
..........Exactly what kind do you try to watch? Most don;t have porn.My favorite (Eyesheild 21) Has none. Then there's old standbys like naruto, onepiece, bleach, etc. that are aimed at kids.Maybe try The Big O,That one's very good.Amnesia, God, and giant fighting machines all wrapped up into one.
A Side note, there's a new one I came across that's simply called "Priest." It's about a young priest exorcist.(Suprise!)I'ts amazing how much they got right (They even got the Latin pronunciation right!) There are some that are risque,Chobits,Midori days, ranma 1/2 for example. Strangely, I just realized that all of those involve some guy/girl falling in love with some guy/girl that IS'NT a guy/girl/human.Odd,I know.

Yuck, porn. There is some anime porn (called hentai, so watch out for that word if you're ever googling...) but the majority of anime isn't. In fact, much of it is very modest! If you're interested in checking out some more anime, this site has good reviews and at the bottom it tells you about any themes that might be objectionable, i.e, nudity profanity, violence, so that'd be a good way to gauge the type of anime you're thinking of watching!
