What Was Jesus's Personality Like?

Hey everyone,
I was thinking about this today. What was Christ like, as a person. Of course he was infinitely loving, compassionate, and merciful, but I'm talking about more 'human' traits (and this is all completely speculative, of course, and not intended to be blasphemous or anything of the sort). Do you think Our Lord would have been able to appriciate a joke? I'd like to think that my Saviour could come up with a few one liners, because I'm the jovial type, but I never have heard of him in a lighthearted manner.
What do you think?
And if this is 'over the line' and/or offensive, please delete it, and I give you my sincerest apologies.
Cheers!
Mitch

Good question, I've wondered the same thing. :saint:
The Passion of the Christ showed that he was a bit playful when he splashed Mother Mary with water from the jug :topsy: ..so thats pretty much all I have for now...hehe

Yeah, I was thinkin of that same example. I really liked how Jesus was portrayed in that scene. Showing that he could have had that same joking relationship people can have with their parents.

Hi Mitch,
I love this idea and have often wondered about it myself. From the Bible it's hard (for me at least) to get a sense of Jesus's personality. I like to think he had a sense of fun/humor etc but it is hard to picture because we're so used to thinking of him as solemn, removed and all of that. I think pondering this is a good way to become closer to Him. :) Katie

Ash Wednesday

I think he was magnetic. (Not literally, silly jokers. Though he probably could get metal to stick to himself if he wanted to.) -- I mean it's just that when some people enter a room, or you meet someone, you just really know there is something really dynamic and special about them.

John Paul II is a good example of a magnetic person. Wise, holy, but also had his moments of wit.

There is a part in the bible where Jesus asks the disciples if they caught any fish yet (knowing full well that they didn't) -- a priest I knew thinks that Jesus was possibly ribbing or teasing them a little during this incident. Which I find pretty funny to think about and certainly possible.

That is always what I think about when I read in the Gospels about Jesus calling the Apostles--all He had to do was say "come, follow me," and they dropped absolutely everything. Everything about Him must have been so magnetic and compelling.

When I tried to imagine it, I imagined the people I have met in my life who were the most loving, most authentic and happy. I imagine that he live life to the fullest, probably had a great sense of humor, and had to have engaging personality. I've often pictured Peter as this grizzled old fisherman, and he probably told some salty stories, and I can visualize Jesus laughing until wine came out of his nose.

Spamity Calamity

And I think he was happy most of the time so he probably was always smiling. I bet he was the kind of person who could have a conversation with someone from any social class and on any subject. ie he could talk about the packers game with one guy and go over some of emersons writings with another

The Packers weren't established until 1921.

Thanks for the insight, guys. I'm glad that it went over well (the topic).
As I continue to ponder it, taking into account what some have said, I agree that considering that He was perfect, he probably is alot like the best people one's ever met, embodying their best qualities, of course. As Tinkerlina has said, I agree that it's really hard to see His playful side from the scriptures...all the more reason to be excited for the world to come :D

Laudate_Dominum

In a recent private conversation I was putting forth the view that the Gospels show that Christ was a master of sarcasm (mostly in dealings with the Pharisees). A lot of it is pretty idiomatic so some of the brilliance and bite is lost in English translation.
