[Abortion and death penalty are both cold blooded, premeditated killings.]

Hardly. In one case an innocent victim dies, in another case a guilty criminal meets his just punishment.

And for the few innocent, wrongly convicted ones who get killed in the process: tough luck. And the execution is still a cold blooded, premeditated killing, regardless of whether or not the person killed is a criminal.

I'm consistently amazed at the lengths people will go to to defend conservative views from Catholic teaching, when the position of the Church hardly be less ambiguous:

2267 Assuming that the guilty party's identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor.

If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people's safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and are more in conformity to the dignity of the human person.

Today, in fact, as a consequence of the possibilities which the state has for effectively preventing crime, by rendering one who has committed an offense incapable of doing harm - without definitely taking away from him the possibility of redeeming himself - the cases in which the execution of the offender is an absolute necessity "are very rare, if not practically non-existent."

It seems like the obvious conclusion - if you read this with a view to understanding what it intends to convey - would be that we should not have the death penalty.

This reminds me of a concert I went to with a non denominational church, the Hero Rock Opera was there, and Rebecca Saint James portrayed Mary Magnelene, who they said was a prostitute. And they thought they were referring to Mary the mother of God, there like you know how they always say that Mary was so pure, she was a prostitue.

I'm like no, no, no!!!!! I had to consitently remind them Mary was a virgin, I finally converted them to believe she was!
