let_go_let_God
I could never get the testings done period. Not only because for the risk of a miscarriage, but also my massive fear of needles.
Amniocentesis is not that dangerous. The sources below are updated routinely. from http://patients.uptodate.com/topic.asp?file=pregnan/6937 "The best estimate of the risk of miscarriage related to amniocentesis performed under ultrasound guidance is 0.8%" For CVS, see http://patients.uptodate.com/topic.asp?file=pregnan/7849 "For every 100 women who undergo CVS, approximately one woman will have a miscarriage as a result of the procedure."
As for the numbers above, I shutter at the thought. The math is easy. For the first test that eight out of 1000 mothers will miscarry due to amniocentesis with an ultrasound. In my opinion that is eight children too many and for CVS to expand it to 1000 is still 10 children out of 1000. Between the two testings that's 18 children who died at the hands of these tests. The numbers I would want to see though are those in regards to how many "positive" results are given and how many abortions are preformed based on them. Falcon
Update..... We did not and have not even planned to have the genetic test done. We placed our babies lives in the hands of God. My post was to better understand how it would be viewed "IF" this were to happen. Thanks God we do not have to face anything like this and pray no one ever does. Thank you everyone. Vivat Jesus. But disabled does not equal defective. No one is 'defective'. And while there are many basic things that I am unable to do, I don't see why that would justify a killing. I really don't understand how a society that talks about equal opportunities for everybody discriminates against children in the womb on grounds of disability and illness. In April I am going to Downing Street with some other young disabled authors to attend a function for children who share our disabilities. I really wish that the doctors who urged my mother to abort me could also go. Despite being medical professionals, there is a lot that they obviously don't realise about disability. prose
"genetic testing"... does that equate amniocentesis? I meant that I had all the blood work done for things like Down's Syndrome.
Falcon
Also please keep in mind that I was refferring to a more life treatening issue like, God forbid, the brain did not develop with the heart. I know a person who this happened to. The baby would never survive the delivery if it went full term which it did not. This is the type of circumstance I was refferring to when there is "no chance" for 1 baby. As for the disabled comments. GOD BLESS YOU. I have never and will never look at a disabled person as being disabled. I see them being MORE enabled then most people. I envy you...... Vivat Jesus
Sometimes doctors will tell people their unborn child has a condition and they will not live, they can be wrong, since it is possible to misread tests. When my aunt was pregnant with my cousin doctors told her to abort him because they said he had no brain and that he would die after birth, and there was only a small chance that he would live but then he would be a "vegetable." She thank goodness kept him and he was born a healthy and normal baby. He's never had any major health problems and is perfectly normal.

let_go_let_God
I know one young man who has almost every psychological disorder one can think of from a moderate to a severe range. He's the brother of one of my best friends. Well he told his brother that most of the time when he sins he can't help it, and that it's a suffering that he understands that is meant for him to endure. I was so happy when I heard he made his Confirmation last Easter. I too believe that it is those who are labeled disabled that have the greater gifts of God. Falcon
My friend who had this happen has described it to me as a stillborn. The baby was delivered but was not alive. SAD... Thanks all for the replies. I am much better about this now.

I would recommend not even having the test and letting God do as he wills unless you are are willing to make a decision like you are thinking of.
