HotRod
Obligatory or not, I cant think of a better way to start the New Year than than Holy sacrifice of the Mass. Much better than sleeping in and nursing a hangover.

Tony
I thought Jan. 1, March 25, August 15, November 1, December 8, and December 25 were universal Holy Days. I never heard of those Holy Days being changeable according to the individual diocese.
when I was becoming Catholic (Baptism,1st communion) in '92, it was explained that the USA had 7 Holy Days where Canada only had 2.. it looks like it was possible the 7 might of been old information at the time from what I am reading on this thread... interesting..
If you add the Ascension (40 days after Easter) that would be the original 7. March 25 (Annunciation) was abrogated in 1884... so it was definitely old when you learned it in 1992! Pio Nono
JMJ 1/3 - SS. Name of Jesus I believe, technically, the following are universal holy days. 1.) 1 Jan - Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God 2.) 6 Jan - Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ 3.) 19 Mar - Solemnity of St. Joseph 4.) 25 Mar - Annunciation of Our Lord Jesus Christ 5.) 40 days after Easter - Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ 6.) 13 Jun - Corpus Christi 7.) 29 Jun - Sts. Peter & Paul 8.) 15 Aug - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 9.) 1 Nov - Solemnity of All Saints 10.) 8 Dec - Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary 11.) 25 Dec - Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ The wild cards (in that I'm not sure of them) are numbers 3, 4 and 6. The US Bishops' Conference has removed the obligation (de facto or de iure) for 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7.
