Dave
I am the only kid (as far as I know) that kneels. Is it right to still kneel on the altar? Yes, it's right to kneel on the altar, but actually, they shouldn't be inviting the kids up around the altar in the first place. It's a violation of the rubrics. cmotherofpirl
Yep. There is no documentation saying kids can gather around an altar. Sorry.
Laudate_Dominum
Oh, how I long for the 13th century! ;)
cimlog
Hmmm.... I will talk to our advisors about that. See why we are doing it then.
cathgirl
I stand if everyone else is standing to avoid the appearance of self-righteousness. I'm like that, too. It really bugged me when they started having us stand AFTER we receive the Eucharist. It's a lot harder to reflect on what just happened.
willguy
I tend to not care that much about what other people think. It's all about Jesus, and He knows my heart so if someone wants to judge me that's their problem. Well, the other reason is to keep me from being self-righteous, from thinking "look at me kneeling here while the rest of them are standing. I'm so devout." cmotherofpirl
I am not worried about what other people are doing (unless they are my kids). I fear God more than other people opinions.
cimlog
That is a great outlook cmom. I like it.
Norseman82
There have been times that I would just kneel anyway. I even think I put the kneeler down and didn't care if it disturbed my pewmates. The problem is NOT that people who kneel should not be kneeling; the problem is that those who do not kneel SHOULD be kneeling.

If you believe that God Incarnate comes down and annihilates Himself in your midst you would think you would feel compelled to show some outward sign of reverence and devotion. It's confusing to me..
willguy
I have nothing against it. I totally agree with it. I also know that I tend to be a proud person at times, and I don't want to kneel if I'll look at myself as better than those who aren't kneeling. cimlog
so do you recommend not going on the altar then?
Aloysius
i dont know. i really don't. i want to kneel for the consecration, so i stay back. if it truly is illicit ( against Church law) then you should not. personal variations to the Universal Mass were condemned at Trent.... this is one of those personal variations, it is illicit. "the Mass never ends... " is a personal variation, it is illicit. yet i dont know, i don't wanna be too strict against it all... aye aye aye, i wish we would just stop changin it and do the Mass the way we're supposedta do it! we're supposedta have the exact same Mass throughout the world, except the music maybe. umm... i don't go on the altar. i don't think we're supposed to. i won't condemn you for doing it though. i need to see where Fr. Gary is gettin this diopitt exception thing...
