Justin86
The reason why the death penalty in this country does not deter crime is because of the lengthy appeal process that can take decades. In countries like China, and the Arab world where they have little to no appellate process it does deter crime. If you're going to take forever and a day to execute criminals for their crime then obviously its just as good as not having the death penalty at all. Didymus
and God forbid we ever take anything less than forever and a day, as you can see our stupid judicial system has been getting it wrong so many times even with that long of a time... just get rid of the system. its not cool... it costs too much money too. It would cost so much less to keep prisoners alive...
Justin86
Actually, I believe the lengthy appellate process is the reason why it is more expensive. You can't just go to court for free you know. The cost of drugs to induce a lethal injection is obviously way cheaper than paying for someone's food, housing, and clothing for 50 or 60 years. prose
Well it certainly costs much more when they get sued for making a mistake.
qfnol31
The executioner can't be a killer because he is acting on behalf of the state. If he were doing it of his own accord, then he would be a killer. It's the same as if Abraham had killed Isaac and we called him a murderer because of it. Abraham was serving God's justice and command, as are executioners (or they better be doing it only for that reason, not for vengeance). I guess that it depends on how he looked at it.
