jeffpugh
Sweet article... so this gamma ray is 1.5 billion lightyears away... so did it take 1.5 billion years to reach the hubble telescope's range? My thinking is it's currently long over with now...

Laudate_Dominum
The video report on that page had some bad figures: 1.4 billion light years does not equal 10,000,000,000,000 km. 1 Light Year = 9,460,730,472,580.8 km so multiply that by 1,400,000,000. They should have reported that this thing is 13,245,022,661,613,120,000,000 km away.
Laudate_Dominum
I've made a little picture just for fun. In this picture our entire galaxy (at the center of the grey circle on the left) takes up about 1/20th of a pixel. 1 pixel equals approximately 2,000,000 light years. In other words the scale of this map is insane. At the center of the grey circle to the right is this death star galaxy jet. The distance between the two points on this map where the scale is 1px = 2,000,000 ly is basically correct. To give another perspective on this we could say that 1 pixel represents ~18,921,460,945,161,600,000 kilometers. If the figure given in that video was correct that black hole would be practically right outside our solar system and we wouldn't be here right now. Coz ur title kinda makes a fool of you man... :S[/quote] The point of this thread is to remind people that we humans really have no control over climate. Hence why I put emphasis on where the article said the gamma ray would "destroy the ozone layer", something we also frequently man-made global warming loons whining about in regards to carbon dioxide emissions. Simply put, there are way too many factors in what creates "the climate" for man to really play role in.
