Thy Geekdom Come
Out of the current candidates who stand a chance, Huckabee. Man I wish Brownback were still in it.
PapaHilarious
Out of the current candidates who stand a chance, Huckabee. Man I wish Brownback were still in it.
me and the wife got to meet brownback out here in LA when he announced (privately) his bid to run. nice man, absolutely. but he has zero charisma. and i have to say he really folded when asked what to do about iraq. -- none of the pro-life candidates are perfect, in my opinion. but we have a disastrous economic situation building here, even if nobody wants to admit it, as our spending has been out of control for decades. the only one i've heard with any solutions is ron paul. pulling our troops out of the dozens and dozens of countries we're in right now is a must. unless we're going to play "Rome" and start taxing other countries, we simply can't afford it. (interestingly enough, i just got an email from my brother in kuwait who says he is 100% ron paul for this very reason.)
elizabeth_jane
I'm a Romney girl--his College Station speech last week floored me and convinced me to go for him, after flirting with the Thompson campaign for awhile. Ron Paul might have some good ideas, but his monetary policy is a little out there. And we can't remove all our military installations--they have strategic purposes. Not that we need bases in Germany to keep the peace, but it is very helpful to have a force in the region. A pull-out from Iraq right now is not the answer. Eventually, we will leave. I have friends over there, and my cousin's husband, so I want them home in one piece. But I also don't want to pull out too soon and leave the job unfinished. The Marshall Plan took years to accomplish. Decades. We need some patience here.
goldbug16
If only Guiliani had kept to Catholic values, then I;m almost positive that he would had a better chance.
dairygirl4u2c
i don't think we should pull out completely, like ron paul, or stay completely, like huckabee. some for intelligence, some for major strongholds and assisting iraqi soldiers, etc etc, other things i'm not aware of i'm sure. but anyways, the country probably sides more with ron paul on this issue though, and it's pretty major, so unless huckabee shifts course and tones it down, he may likely lose. i did see a poll that said he'd lose to all the democrats, but that could be, as the poll person said, only because he's still relatively obscure. Ash Wednesday
From what I've read so far, I've been leaning towards Ron Paul. Here's a question, (and of course a lot can change in a year...) who do you think is going to actually WIN?

Good God, is that the New Kids on the Block in your avatar Ash? Gosh that brought back scary memories of me when I was young.
Nathan
I support Ron Paul. Not that he stands a chance against the Republican establishment; they wouldn't nominate a paleoconservative like him in a million years. As I see it, the GOP has already chosen Rudy Giuliani as their man for '08, and the Democrats have already chosen Hillary Clinton. (Barack Obama is basically running to be Clinton's running mate right now.) Which kind of shows us how truly stupid the Democratic Party is -- the American people will not elect Clinton over Giuliani. She's too polarizing, too unlikeable... and she's a woman. I guess they're figuring that since Bush is so hated, they can just throw anybody up against the GOP's candidate and win. They'll have figured wrong. Lounge Daddy
I could easily vote Rudy. But if Huckabee were to win the GOP ticket... I may have to send my vote elsewhere. I would probably look for Ron Paul to run on a third party ticket or something.
SarahB
Right now I'm for Ron Paul. I realize he has zero chance of getting the nomination, though, so my second choice is Mike Huckabee. If he doesn't get it I'll vote independant/third party.
Daniel9
Huckabee is my choice! I believe the man is sincere. I don't think he is pandering to voters by giving answers that he thinks everyone wants to hear. A lot of mud is being thrown at him right now because of his amazing leap in the polls. Check your sources when you research him. I think you will like what you read.
BG45
It depends on who gets the Dem and Republican nominations. I don't like Huckabee's abolishing the IRS plan, but probably Huckabee.
elizabeth_jane
I'm seeing a lot of Ron Paul/ Huckabee folks. If they don't win, what other Republican would you support? And if you would vote independent or not vote at all, why? (I'm a Poli Sci kid...so I"m interested
