mom25angels
Well, if I had a daughter who wanted me to spend $100 on her hair I'd say to her, "What? You're talking to a man who thinks eight dollar haircuts are overpriced. I'm going to spend $100 on a haircut, who do you think I am, John Edwards?"
Well, I'm definetly NOT spending $100 on this!!! My friend does hair out of her home and cuts mine and six kids for $40!! She said she would highlight dds for $30. My goodness....that's even more than I usually spend on birthday gifts. mom25angels
That really depends on the color. If I had a 15yr old daughter, I would be more likely to let her get pink or green, or whatever other unnatural color, than let her get a natural one. If she got pink or green, then I would know beyond all shadow of a doubt that it wasn't for "sex-appeal" or to look more attractive to guys. With "normal" highlights, you can't be sure. edit in - just be mindful of the rules of her school regarding hair.
Well, we haven't made any hair coloring policies at our school, yet. As mom/teacher I leave that up to the dad/principal(tee hee) We def won't be going with pink or green.....I remember very distinctly from my teenage years(in the dark ages) that the boys interested in pink or green were usually interested in MUCH MORE than hair. I can't imagine that has changed much....as far as I can tell from my shopping time at the mall lately, anyway!!
i remembe amost a whole ten years ago when i was in high school there were a number of girls with highlights in their hair. This is not condoning it, what i mean to say i that nowadays i do not seem to see that nearly as much. It is passing out of style is my impression, so it doesnt make sense that a teenager, as teenagers often try to be in style, is interested in highlights. i personally prefer girls with dark natural hair, but i am not looking shalom
I don't think its so much highlights that are going out of style as it is a particular way of doing highlights that is going out. There's more than one way to add highlights.

If the girl is devout and a practicing Catholic (which includes practicing sexual morality), then getting highlights isn't going to make you a whore. Heaven forbid if someone were to assault her, it isn't going to be because the color of her hair. Rapists are sick individuals, they attack people of all different shapes, colors, and sizes. I've seen a lot of teens and adults with highlights, it doesn't mean they all look attractive in them.

As a guy, I really disagree with that statement--unless you are only talking about senior citizen women, in which case I can't really tell you either way since they are very much outside of my age group. Either way, asking someone to put a limit of how pretty she can be is rather foolish. I'm a guy, and even I try to look my best despite the fact that I am already absurdly handsome to begin with. HotRod
If my wife asked me this about one of our daughters, I think my answer would be along the lines of.... eh? whatever. seriously though, unless its is some kind of crazy color, it seems harmless to me. That certainly opens up possibilities. The guys hanging out with the girls with pink and green hair were attracted to their rebelliousness, and not their hair. Trust me. I used to be one of them. I have two very good female friends who dyed their hair (one pink and one purple), and "that kind" of guy wasn't going anywhere near them. But then again, maybe it was me keeping them away, rather than their moral figure. Anyways, I'm not a parent yet and you've got more experience with child raising, so you do your thing. I just find it helpful to have distinctly different perspectives on stuff like this, and I tend to be the one with such a perspective. Another idea is to get her a bottle/jar/whatever of "temporary" highlights - Stuff that lasts for a couple of days and then washes out. That way she could have her highlights, but you can be comfortable knowing it's not too permanent.
