E W T N - A Network Gone Wrong?

I just stumbled upon this book: http://www.networkgonewrong.org/about.htm

what do you all think?

from the website:
The author shows that the “moderately Modernist” version of Roman Catholicism EWTN purveys on television and over the Internet to millions of Catholics embodies much of what the “innovators” feared by Pius XII had in mind. The result is far more insidious than any open heresy, for EWTN’s “fans” are induced to imbibe spiritual poison along with seeming spiritual goods. The unwary thus accept under the guise of orthodoxy many of the errors and abuses the Church condemned before the Council.

At the same time, EWTN uses its power and influence to marginalize as “extreme traditionalists” faithful Catholics who try to defend their Church against “the suicide of altering the faith, in her liturgy, her theology, and her soul,” which EWTN is helping to advance.

The author demonstrates that while EWTN holds itself out as the gold standard of Catholic orthodoxy today, it is actually a major promoter of Modernist innovation in the Church. EWTN is therefore a major obstacle to the widespread return to traditional Catholic belief and practice in all its integrity—the only way to end the crisis in the Church. Catholics thus have a duty to oppose what EWTN is doing and to call for its correction.
I think that synopsis is absurd. From what I watch and read on EWTN and their website, it's totally orthodox.

My main complaint about EWTN is that it only has programming for senior citizens.

LOL... that's not quite accurate.

Parable, Knowing Mary in the Bible and Pure Life stand out immediately. Those, just to name a few shows, are not geared for seniors.

You could say more young adult programing, music other than CCM type is needed on EWTN.

Maybe I'm 30 and old.

Pure Life is good. :)) caught it a couple of times.

but yeah, they need some different music on there. for instance, some of our own phatmass artists.

the fact that they have turned down some Catholic artists and bands kinda shows that they're nowhere near being unorthodox...

I'm still upset Seven Sorrows wasn't allowed on...

Ash Wednesday

It's never seemed modernist to me. I've actually heard people call it "pre-Vatican II" But I do worry about what is going to happen to the station in the future since Mother Angelica has been waning. Not that anyone could ever take her place but they need another charismatic and solidly orthodox figure to take over the helm.

Thy Geekdom Come

EWTN consistently hosts Bishop Bruskewitz for commentary on different events. Anyone who accuses a network hosting him as being modernist just must not be watching.

total carp, but considering the source, not unexpected...

EWTN is tottally faithful and totally Catholic. Thats why SSPX hates them.

While I wouldn't say it's all for senior citizens, a lot of the programming is very cheesy and painful to watch. On the other hand, they do have some great shows such and I really do appreciate that they broadcast papal events.

I like Life on the Rock. That's a yoot oriented show. If ya just check the website, you'll find some really great titles. I've seen some Christopher West on there too, some other pretty good ones on faith and morals and stuff... of course, we have Fr Corapi. Unfortunately, they stick him in at the 10pm slot from where I live. It sorta upsets me. I like to soak up his power talks a little earlier.

My main complaint is that most of the programming looks like it is filmed from the eighties and it bores me to tears.

Good sleep aid I guess.

I cancelled my subscription over a year ago.

yup :ohno: unfortunately.

but, there are a few good shows, like Chris West, Life on the Rock, The Pure Life. But like SMM said, for me, usually those good "youth" shows are stuck at the 10 p.m. or later slots.
