Brother Adam
Do you know anything about the ex-priests they are talking about that found out Romanism is not Christianity and that they were "never saved"? Do they have any credability? http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultima...t=002420#000003

Do they have any credability? http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultima...t=002420#000003 bro adam, tell ur friend bob ryan to come to phatmass and we'll open a bible and show HIM the light. contrary to popular opinion, there are catholics out there who are catholic b/c it is an actual personal choice that they have made, through honest research, and yes, even by reading the bible (GASP! a catholic reading the bible!?!? God forbid.....) i guess st. jerome, u know, that Catholic who wrote the vulgate and knows every word of the bible............i guess he was just delusional. i love how so many protestants assume that once a catholic opens the bible he will finally see the light and come out of the darkness. what does this guy think, that we're scared to read the bible? that we can't support catholic doctrine w/ it? i also love how much fun people have waving their "facts" around and joking w/ their buddies behind our back about how absurd catholicism is. why don't these people get a backbone and actually engage a catholic and put their "facts" to the test. notice that, over here, the debate table is pretty dead when there are no protestants around. this is b/c we have no need to sit around and talk about how protestants have it all wrong. yet, if it wasn't for catholicism, some preachers woudln't even have a sermon on sunday..... sorry bro, this tirade isn't aimed at u, just at the judgmental posts and the bogus testimonies from ex-priests that i read when i followed ur link. it was probably the ex-priest testimonies that bothered me the most. actually, it was rather disheartening. anyway, i don't feel like joining another anti-catholic website, so tell bob ryan that if he's feelin froggy he can jump right in. and tell him to make sure he brings his bible.... pax christi, phatcatholic

cmotherofpirl
I don't see how these "priests" can ever claim they didn't know anything about the Bible, considering they were the ones reading it at Mass everyday, and every single night when they said their Office. What - they didn't pay attention to what they were doing for the first 40 years of their life? Does that make any sense to anybody? Please ask your baptist friends if they can explain the conversion of John Newman? http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10794a.htm
Dave
Well, ya know, with a lot of ex-priests, it starts off as a desire to do something opposed to Church teaching or discipline. With ex-priest and anti-Catholic Bart Brewer, it started with him desiring to break his vows of celibacy.
Laudate_Dominum
I am not familiar with the particular ex-priests that were presented, but most of the ex-catholic things I've seen are pretty lame. It's shocking to read sometimes and discover how little the person actually understands about the Faith. If someone has truly embraced Catholicism and is really living the faith I don't understand how they could leave the Church. If you encounter Christ in the Eucharist and know His love and presence there more than anywhere else and know your heavenly Mother and love her entirely why would you leave all that behind to join a non-catholic church? Also I've seen books by ex-catholics who became protestants (a protestant counter attack to the many books that have come out of protestants turned Catholic), and something that is very striking to me is that fact that almost always the people who left the Church are angry and have an axe to grind. They say mean things about the Church and generally have a negative and spiteful attitude. Whereas the protestant converts to Catholicism are peaceful and joyful and have no bitterness or resentment towards protestantism. They are generally very positive about it and don't just try to attack it with every low blow they can think of. This kind of says it all. Laudate_Dominum
And often times these guys were never even priests! I know of a guy who has written several books on christianity and who acts like he's an expert on Catholicism. He says he is an ex-dominican priest. This sounds quite impressive since the dominicans are very learned and scholarly types. But when I looked into it I discovered that he was never a priest or officially a dominican at all!! In something he wrote a long time ago he didn't say he was a dominican priest but admitted that he had been a postulant with the dominicans for a short time in the 60's until he basically snuck out to go drink and smoke pot and never came back!! Anyway, I would always question people's credibility when they are attacking the Church. A priest doesn't just leave because he decided to open his Bible for the first time and discovered protestantism. That's a complete joke. If these guys really were priests they had some serious issues no doubt.
Aloysius
there's no such thing as an ex-priest, just a non-practicing priest. a priest is a priest forever
