He handed me a beautiful red rose and kneeled and popped the question.
Here's the funny thing. It was when we were just chilling out and having cake and coffee with his GRANDMOTHER.

It was so.... POLISH.
To make a long story as short as possible -- we've been dating since 2002. We were internet friends for years before that, even when we were both dating other people. But we met in person at World Youth Day and as fate would have it, both single. :deal: For the majority of the time up until this year it was a long distance relationship, which really SUCKED and there were times I wondered if all this hardship was worth it, plus during part of that time I had to weather the loss of my mother. I'm very independant and stubborn in a lot of ways, so for some of the time things felt very uphill. But I guess as we share so much in common, including a strong underlying friendship, there's always been an unbreakable bond between us -- even in the hardships, I knew I would have been a fool to walk away from it all. He's always known that I was the girl he was going to marry and that's all there was to it! So after years of trying to figure out who was going to live where, we finally both ended up in England earlier this year and it's all finally coming together. And there you have it.[/quote]

seriously, that's awesome! i am so happy for you, ash.

Mabrook, ya habibi! Congratulations!

Will the wedding take place in Poland or England? (And if you don't mind me asking, whereabouts in England are you based?)

Well, it's going to be in England, that much I know. Marrying internationally is a hair-tearing experience -- dealing with visas and trying to plan some kind of a wedding on top of all that feels overwhelming right now.

I'm pretty sure we have to marry with the parish local to where we live. It certainly makes things easiest considering all the hoop jumping we have to make already. The church we go to has a priest we both like and we have made friends with members of the parish community. But I have to tell you on the outside it is one of the ugliest churches I have ever seen. It has all the mystique of a large gymnasium.

But the inside is all right. It has the look and feel of a regular church and with some flowers and candles would be a perfectly fine wedding. But I can't help but feel my heart sink a bit not marrying at a church I have some personal history or connection to -- like his home parish or mine. But that's life, and it's not the aesthetic details of the wedding that matter -- it's the marriage. And I'm still marrying in "THE Church" I have personal history and connection to, no matter what country or city I marry in.

I don't even know if this place has a piano or organ. A friend of mine has offered to sing, and I suppose I could hire a violinist or something.

After my mother passed away, the idea of the "big princess wedding" at my home parish kind of died with her. I guess it was hard for me to imagine having this big lavish wedding without her there. That feeling has eased up some, but I guess given circumstances, a more simple (but still aesthetically pleasing and elegant, I am an artist after all) wedding still is going to be the way to go.

Anybody got any wedding planning resources? Websites? Phatmasser wedding threads? :idontknow:

London and southeast -- PM me and I can give you the specific location. I love the term "habibi" ... haha. We say that all the time though neither of us are arabic we like the term.
