mulls
Alright, I haven't been gone that long, but I just feel like checking in, because stuff is happening. Since I took my break from here, my prayer life, bible studying, and overall relationship with God has picked up tremendously. This would be on account of spending less time online and watching tv (time-wasters of themselves). Also, the fact that my roomate moved out last semester was a huge benefit, and now I believe to be divinely-inspired, since I can pray or read the Word in the comfort of my own room, whenever I want. I believe God is preparing me to take over a ministry next semester, since my friends who run it now are graduating, and the weight falls on my shoulders. My vision is to bring together all the separate Christian fellowships on campus to work for the common cause of spreading the Gospel. This semester we will be putting together another outreach program similar to the one I told you all about last semester. We are also trying to put on a campus-wide worship service, where every Christian here would come and be led in worship by our world famous Gospel choir (seriously, they are really, really good) and hear a fire-'em-up message from a great guy I am bringing in, to get everyone motivated to do the Lord's work. And I will definately let the Catholic church on campus know about all of this, especially since the majority of the students here are Catholic. I really hope they will support us. In the meantime me and a friend have been going dorm to dorm and administering surveys about Christianity, which is really just a segue (sp?) into sharing Christ with someone. This has been going very well, and we have given a lot of non-believers a lot to think about, to say the least. Also, I have been making new Christian friends on a weekly basis, if not daily. This is something that I was not experiencing last year, and this is definately another reason for my spiritual growth. God is setting stuff up here, it is very, very exciting. This campus is going to be in a frenzy soon. That's about it, in case you're interested. I've been avoiding any theological debates and arguments and focusing strictly on the Lord. But I put this in the debate table because most things I say seem to be controversial But honestly, I'm so completely fired up right now. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated. God is moving. p.s. I've been lurking, this place has gotten boring lately God Bless.
phatcatholic
mulls, it is good to hear from you again! believe it or not, i'm in a similar ministry position where i go to college. i started a catholic club here and every week i teach a different doctrine of the faith. i have found it very difficult to get support tho. unlike ur campus, mine is predominantly christian-nondenominational or baptist. so, i never get a huge turnout, but i'm always thankful for the ones who do come to learn. also, i will be very interested to see if u are able to coordinate all the ministries on ur campus. here it is a struggle. for me, its hard for me to participate in the other campus ministries b/c every time i share my faith, it tends to cause a ruckus (sp?). so, i tend to feel rather isolated here. anyway, i tell u this to let u know that ur largest obstacle will be ensuring that students from all faiths will feel welcome and that they will be able to benefit from ur collaborative efforts. i suggest a Christian Ministry Council. we have just started one here, so i don't have an objective viewpoint of its effectiveness. but, just from a logical viewpoint, it seems like it has potential. what u would do is have a campus chaplain be the faculty advisor, and i guess u could be the president. then u would have as members a rep from each one of the campus ministries. that way, each ministry has a voice. then, u can coordinate e/o's events so that two things dont run at the same time, u can promote e/o's activities in ur respective meetings, u can pool ur funds together, and it will be easier to coordinate activities that benefit everyone. just some thoughts..........make sure u keep us updated, and again, it is good to have u back. pax christi, phatcatholic
mulls
phatcatholic, having a council is a great idea, and in fact was suggested to me by a student in a fellowship that i had checked out for the first time just last night. your final paragraph pretty much sums up what i want to do. this is mainly for next year, but the seeds are being planted now. thanks for the support. i better put this in open mic, debate table seems DEAD lol. M.SIGGA
Great to finally have you back Mulls. I was Catholic Stu. Union President my sophomore year and for me it was really tough because a whole lot more was sort of expected of me that I really didn't take into account when I ran for office lol. You've got my prayers and keep us posted with all your projects and stuff. I'm glad you are growing more in your faith and relationship with God. Good Luck! MJS
Another suggestion is a "Chaplain's roundtable." Representatives from different organizations could come together (at lunch) and simply talk about the vibe on campus. This would help you make connections wiht the different religious organizations, thus helping your eccumenical service get off the ground. This would also help the Chaplain to know how he or she can be more effective in the spiritual guidance of the students on campus.
