I Climbed A Volcano

...and it sucked.

It was the hardest, coldest, most physically demanding and most disappointing thing I've even done in my life. Disappointing because I DID make it to the top, but clouds had blown in and so I could not see a thing, could not breathe because of the sulfur gas. It was horrible.

But I climbed a volcano, how sweet is that?

Just thought I'd share.

We expect pics :)[/quote]

Hehehe... Well, the volcano was in southern Chile, and they monitor seismic readings and wouldn't let you go up if they thought it was dangerous. And after we got started, it was too exhausting and exciting to be scared.

No terrible towel (actually, I don't even own one!!!), but don't worry, I will post pics. It might be a while though, because I'm quite overwhelmed with homework and needing to post pics on my blog first right now.

Hooray for you. Even if it wasn't fun, enjoy the sense of achievment, and the fact that from now on if anyone makes a petty criticism of you, you can say "And how many volcanoes have YOU climbed?"

Looking up at the volcano- notice, it was clear that early in the day, besides the occasional cloud drifting by!

This is the highest view we got- after this it was pure whiteness the next few hours (besides when we got to the top, then it was pure yellowness because the sulfur gas was so thick)

Some of that pure whiteness, only in this one you can see a bit of a rocky ridge.

Me after we finally made it back down under the cloud cover... notice the icicles in my hair... yuck... At this point I was quite sad because I had seen how far we had to go haha

It WAS a pretty cool view... although it would have been more awesome from a few thousand feet higher!

Yeah thats what we keep saying... now that I can walk again (I was soooooo sore), I can say it was a pretty amazing experience, although I am still bitter about making it but not getting to see the crater or anything.

That is so awesome! I want to climb a mountain someday. Not necessarily a volcanic mountain. But just a simple mountain would be great :)
