Guest Guest
Hello, I know this maybe a silly question, but I want to know how do I become a Catholic? I have always been a Christian, and am currentley going to a Non-denominational Chruch. But recentley through much praying, studying, reading, I have found that I want to become a Catholic, very much! How do I do this, what is the first step? Can I just start going to the church at any time? Or will they not let me? I will be thankful for any help! I just know that I am VERY eager to become a Catholic and join my local Catholic church...the sooner the better!

Hello Guest, The easiest thing for you to do is to find your local Catholic Church, and schedule an appointment to talk to the pastor or a priest there. Let him know that you are interested in becoming Catholic and I am sure he would be more than happy to speak with you. He will most likely recommend you to take RCIA classes (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). The RCIA program is essentially an adult catechesis course, preparing you to receive those sacraments you are without. Since you said you came from a non-denomenational church, I would assume that you have been baptized. You need preparation to receive the Eucharist and to be confirmed. As to the other part of your question. You are free to attend a Catholic Mass, and I would encourage you to do so. However, keep in mind, that you should not receive the Eucharist, as that is indicative of one who has been fully incorporated into the Catholic Church. Besides, like I said, it is good to have catechesis about the Eucharist before going up to receive. Hope that helps. If not, either transfer this question to the normal boards (Open Mic), or let one of the other "Church Scholars" asnwer. God Bless
