Lil Red
For example, giving up: Speeding Sweets Coffee Cursing Gossip Impure sexual acts Fighting with siblings. Talking on phone TV Take shorter showers so your family has more hot water. Don't listen to music in the car: pray on the way to and from work. Giving in: Go to Adoration every day. Pray a Rosary each day. Read daily Mass Scriptures. Give a compliment to someone each day. Do your homework right after school. Pray for an hour before Mass. Serve at soup kitchen each week Keep your room clean. Recycle everything. Take a prayerful walk each morning or evening. I usually try to give in than give up. Lil Red
The purpose of Lent is to give of one's self, rather than to focus on one's self. In emptying ourselves, we make more room for God. So whatever you think will help you in your journey to make more room for God.
immaculata
I'm giving up wearing makeup to school. I spend way too much time in front of the mirror in the morning. Maybe I could take that twenty minutes and use it to do some spiritual reading before I go off to school. Plus, this will teach me to care more about what's inside than how I appear outside. Lil Red
WOW, immaculata, that is so amesome! what a wonderful way to be more spiritual. Maybe you could pray in that 20 minutes, or read the Bible, or read a spiritual book. amesome-ness!

IcePrincessKRS
I'm giving up all excess sweets (soda, candy, an the like), and I'm going to strive to be a better wife and mother, and I want to work on my prayer life some more, too. Well, I think I'm doing pretty darn good at being a nice mommy, but I'm super lazy about housework because I hate it (I do the bare minimum), so I'm making myself do all the things I procrastinate on. I know it probably doesn't sound like much of a sacrifice, but if you know me, it really is! lol
Richard
I'm giving up sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cakes and other junk food. I like the idea of praying in the car (or on my scooter) too.

I kind of got the idea from this poem.... Still to Be Neat - Ben Jonson (1572 - 1637) Still to be neat, still to be dressed, As you were going to a feast; Still to be powdered, still perfumed: Lady, it is to be presumed, Though art's hid causes are not found, All is not sweet, all is not sound. Give me a look, give me a face That makes simplicity a grace; Robes losely flowing, hair as free: Such sweet neglect more taketh me Than all the adulteries of art; They strike mine eyes but not my heart. thicke
I am giving up all beverages. I'll only drink water. I am also hoping to spend more time before the Blessed Sacrament.
Tony
I really like the idea of giving in. Maybe I will pray the Divine Mercy or some other chaplet during Lent.. or commit to praying some type of chaplet daily but not neccessarily the same chaplet... hmmm Edited February 13, 2004 by Tony

M.SIGGA
Any money I find/spare change is going in St. Anthony's Box, pray the Rosary everyday, and volunteer somewhere charitable at least once a week. I've done the food thing for awhile and this year I want to jazz it up. lol.
