Computer Virus? Spyware?

WE had that problem once. Every time we went to a new website, random porn sites would fill the screen and wouldn't go away. In the end, we had to have everything stripped (excuse the pun) and started from scratch.

I'm thinking you have 1 or more spyware programs on your computer that are bringing this garbage in. There are several good antispyware programs on the market. the one I use is called Invisus. It found a keylogging program and another psyware program that had been completely missed by the two other antispyware programs I had on my computer.

I'll ditto the general consensus. As a note, it might be a good idea to download an antispyware program (eg ad-aware http://www.lavasoft.de ), update it, then reboot into safe mode (press F8 when the computer is starting up until it gives you a text menu) and do a full (as opposed to smart) scan.

Yeah, same thing happened to us. And there would be random pictures downloaded in random folders on our computer.

Be careful what you bring into your computer...I have cleaned a LOT of computers belonging to people at church that had this carp on them. In every instance, the trojan horses that triggered it all were legit programs/applets the users installed and used themselves:

1. shopping programs - give you points for shopping online and/or doing surveys
2. coupon programs - pop up ads and coupons....and pron
3. limewire/bearshare - more than half the stuff out there for 'free' download is infected
4. internet explorer - heh...just kidding :lol_roll:
5. weather forecast programs

Sometimes that's the way the cookie bounces...

Switching to firefox if you're not already using it will help keep them from popping up. Also, be sure to check your "homepage" and your "favorites" because they can be changed without asking and it often happens with porn popups. If it's changed and you click the home icon or on a bad "favorite", then you're pretty much back to square one.

And the pictures can download themselves to your computer too. I spent eight hours cleaning off a friend's computer once. That was the worst I've ever seen a computer without it being unfixable.

go to trend micro and do a free scan, you will be surprised at all the carp you find.
download and use spybot, cookiewall, and use ad-aware daily.
