Nicole
Short Answer: No. Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide is never acceptable. ************************************************************* Longer Answer: The Church does not say one must go to extraordinary means to keep one alive. So, ordinary means would be, food, clothing, shelter, basic medication. Extraordinary means would be a ventilator, life support, costly surgery that has a slim chance of working, etc. I know so many people for assisted suicide who insists that if they are ever in that condition, they would not want to be a burden to those around me. My response is that our society has a sick notion that (hard work + caring for fellow man= waste of time.) Who knows what happens to you or the person you are caring for in their last days? Who knows how you change others by example? If someone is in severe pain, of course, do everything in your power to make him comfortable and as pain-free as possible. But don't take their life. musturde
Never. If you cared about the person you would do what's best for them. They can earn some extra brownie points in heaven for the suffering. Edited February 12, 2004 by musturde
