Rather then spending 25K on Education, 'useful towards Salvation'- why would you help those less fortunate in Steubenville?
Did you know that the school contributes more to the economy in Steubenville than any other business in town? Did you know that the students who attend there are slowly but steadily renovating all the homes in the ghetto and evangelizing the city? Did you know that every time there's a fire that burns down a house in town, it's the students who collect goods and donations to cover the damage? Did you know there's a Steubenville homeless ministry? Did you know that the homeless in downtown Steubenville are very well taken care of by the generous students and staff who often empty their pockets to give them all they can? Did you know that hundreds of FUS students go on mission trips every Spring and Summer? This whole thread is based on your assumptions about something you haven't experienced. Hashbrowns
It's probably the best 'slum' in the United States. And they do. Thy Geekdom Come
They could take a mission trip everytime they go down the hill.
"When he was in Bethany reclining at table in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of perfumed oil, costly genuine spikenard. She broke the alabaster jar and poured it on his head. There were some who were indignant. "Why has there been this waste of perfumed oil? It could have been sold for more than three hundred days' wages and the money given to the poor." They were infuriated with her. Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why do you make trouble for her? She has done a good thing for me." -Mark 14:3-7 They have done good things, spending hundreds of dollars to go and serve the poor (I have a friend who craddled a dying girl in the middle of the road in Haiti while she received the Anointing of the Sick) when others would go to Cancun to live in sin, and you have the nerve to point out that they could have done more? When did you give everything you had to the poor? When did you stand open-handed in the street and offer your goods to another? How dare you slander and malign those who do God's work by pointing out, from the comfort of your computer chair, how they didn't manage to take care of every last sheep. As a matter of fact, however, they do go on mission when they go down the hill. Those students help out with tutoring programs, fundraisers, food for the poor, habitat for humanity, and a great number of other ministries. How dare you look past all the good they do and ask what they haven't done. They have done a good thing for Christ, and you want to nitpick what else they could have done? catholicinsd
Again a state school averages about $10,000 less than FUS annual tution. This is 10 grand that could serve the poor, not only at the bottom of the hill, but around the world.
Hashbrowns
Okay, you go to a state school and give 10 grand to serve the homeless. I will go to Steubenville and spend time with the blessed Sacrament every day. We'll see who serves better.

Hashbrowns
have you ever been to Steubenville? Did you know that for a long time there was *FREE* housing offered on campus? The only reason it's not free anymore is because now the school owns it and wants a little bit of help renovating it and making sure that it's not just full of crack houses. Thank you very much for bashing my home. And there's a pretty big difference between a Newman center and a chapel of perpetual adoration. Not just a chapel but one in EVERY DORM.
