I'm looking at a school up there, but I'd like more information.
My home town is 15 miles south of Ely. PM me and I'll talk with you and help you out. homeschoolmom
Do they have hotdishes?
Of course. They would starve if they didn't have the basic staples.
let_go_let_God
I miss having time to cook. I miss a good hotdish. Anyway as for Community Colleges in the area there is Vermilion Community College in Ely, Mesabi Range Community College in Virgina and the Technical College in Eveleth and Hibbing Community College in Hibbing. Since you mentioned Ely specifically which came as a surprise for me today I'll just write about that. Theres a lot of wilderness and such surrounding the whole area. The large cities nearest to Ely (since that's where you specifically mentioned) are Virginia, which is about 35 miles south and Duluth which is about 1.5 - 2 hour trip south east. It's a very secluded area which as previously states is well known for its access to the BWCA but also for its artists community. Many people claim that Ely is a small town with the heart of a big town since it actually has many shops that are only common to the larger towns in the area because of the tourist trade. Towns in the surrounding area such as Babbitt, Embarrass, Tower, Soudan, Orr, Cook and Winton, rely highly on the tourist trade brought in by the summer festivals, tourism in Ely and the Lake Vermillion region, well established business people having cabins on local lakes, logging, taconite mining and small farmsteads specializing in livestock and dairy. The primary religious affiliation of people living in this region is Lutheran due to a strong Scandinavian heritage that is still strong. There are three Catholic parishes in the region though. St. Anthony's in Ely, St. Pius X in Babbitt, and St. Martin's in Tower. These parishes are small but the parishioners are very welcoming once they get to know you. Many students who go to Vermilion Community College attend mass at St. Anthony's in Ely so they don't have to drive the 15 miles to Babbitt or the 20 miles to Tower. All parishes in the region belong to the Diocese of Duluth. If you have any more questions, let me know. God bless- LGLG
