DesiringMore
If someone grew up in the church, was baptized, had their first communion, and went through confirmation but then left the church and became a member of another denomination, where does the Catholic Church stand on this? what are they considered in the eyes of the church? and if they recognize the need to come back to the Catholic Church, how does the church look upon that? what do they have to do to "be a part of" the Church again? BLAZEr
The Church says Welcome Home! Technically, one is still a Catholic. They would need to make a confession of their sins from the last time they went to confession (a priest can help to make this easy) and then they are welcomed to join us at Communion again! cappie
If someone formally left the Catholic Church and became a member of another Christian denominiation then wished to resume their life as a practising member of the church usually they would be required to make a full confession of their sins and a public affirmation of faith such as someone who is being received into full communion. As to the way back it depends on each parish. In my parish I handle it myself.
Pontifex
I concur. I would simply have the person make a good confession and then also have them declare their Baptismal promises once again. Peace, Fr. P
