cimlog
definitely has to be a motive for marrying someone who is dead. Good point. But if she was jobless and had plans to marry, even though it is weird, it may be necessary to continue her life. Just as long as she plans to stay married and doesn't divorce after she gets the benefits.

DAF
The idea is more than just gross, it's equivelant to the notion of 'gay marriage.' The fact is that the sacrament of matrimony can't be adminstered to a dead guy. The marriage isn't real. But yeah, what a psycho.
CoffeeCatholic
i dunno, i understand her. When my boyfriend died 2 1/2 years ago I had dreams (both day and night) about marrying him in heaven and whatnot. They were weird, stupid, and wrong, but it makes sence. When you love someone that much, and then you loose them, you'll do anything to hold on to them if you can't find peace in Christ. Also, if under French law this is some kinda posthumous marriage, that transcends time and makes it as though the woman and man were in fact married before the death of her fiance, then it's not so bad. Although in the Church we know that it is impossible to marry a dead person, because Marriage is not a permanent vocation, hence the "till death do us part", to give the woman the rights that would have been granted her in time if her fiance had survived a few more months makes things much more understandable. also, should she want to marry (again) she is free to as a widow. chris
[quote]Frenchwoman Marries Her Dead Boyfriend Tue Feb 10, 5:29 PM ET Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo! NICE, France - Dressed in a demure black suit, a 35-year-old Frenchwoman married her dead boyfriend Tuesday — a macabre exchange of vows that required authorization from the French president. Under French law, Christelle Demichel became both bride and widow as a result of the ceremony, which was performed at Nice City Hall on the French Riviera. The deceased groom, a former policeman identified as Eric, was not present at the ceremony. He was killed by a drunk driver in September 2002. Demichel told LCI television she was fully aware that "it could seem shocking to marry someone who is dead," but said that her fiance's absence from her life had not dimmed her feelings for him. According to French law, a marriage between a living person and a dead person can take place as long as preliminary civic formalities have been completed that show the couple had planned to marry. Before the ceremony can take place, it must be approved by the French president. MissScripture
But since he's dead, would she need an annulment?
2xbob
Not valid since the groom had no say (that the artical mentions atleast). As long as they dont consumate their marriage...
